Stop The Invasion' billboards rising

By Amy Hess

CBS in Dallas reports that while illegal immigration opponents in Texas aren't rushing to the streets en masse, they are making their voices heard. Local conservatives have gotten together to put up a billboard that calls down on commuters, "Stop the Invasion; Secure Our Borders" near downtown Dallas.

These folks aren't against immigrants. Just illegal ones. One of those who supports the billboard campaign is Jenny Bauer, a legal immigrant from China. She says, "...I'm living a good life in America. This is a beautiful country and I'm just thinking everybody should come here legally."

Her husband Colby says, "A lot of people would see it as an invasion of immigrants, but it's not. It's an invasion of illegal immigrants. I don't care how many people come to this country as long as they do it legally."

Border security is vital for protecting America, and yet illegal aliens sneak into America all the time. It doesn't help that the Border Patrol has been relaying to the Mexican government the locations of Minutemen along the border. The Minutemen are volunteers who notify Border Patrol when they see aliens sneaking into the country. They are not to actually arrest illegals themselves, and the Border Patrol should see them as assets, as aids in guarding the nearly-2000 mile border between the United States and Mexico. Partnership and training are in order for these volunteers.

Instead, the Border Patrol has tried to appease the Mexican government (which sees no need to appease America) by notifying it of Minutemen whereabouts. Not only does that information endanger American volunteers along the border, it betrays the efforts they are making to protect the United States - a job the Border Patrol isn't doing well enough.

How about this, Mexico. Stop people from crossing illegally from your country into America. Then U.S. citizens in Texas and Arizona and New Mexico won't feel as threatened by the influx across their land.

Remember, terrorists cross over the border too. At the end of April, an Egyptian named Ashraf Ahmed Abdallah Bashar plead guilty to helping at least 100 Middle Eastern men sneak across the Mexican border for fees of up to $8000. I'd wager that most of those men weren't just looking to start a new life in the land of opportunity.

See TB or this or something, anything other than the birdflu is what will cause a pandemic!

If no foreigners are ever screened for infectious diseases, as is now the case, we're vulnerable to who ever has what...TB, Hepatitis, on and on!

We now risk, the potential of an untold amount of diseases from 20 million or more undocumented aliens. None of this was mentioned in the proposed immigration legislation, or how it would be, if at all enforced.

Is this a threat. You bet your booties it is.

I don't know what the worst thing is: the invasion itself; the loss of our culture and language; the overpopulation and drain on all of our resources; or the disease threat. I REALLY don't feel like getting leprosy, for example.

They used to have places where people with TB had to go and stay.

It all goes to the heart of knowing who, what and where are within our borders. Our government knows all about this illegal activity, yet, they turn a blind eye. The vexing question is, why not make, and keep it legal? Even the illegal alien knowing that they're here legal will be happy.

If you, or I turn a blind to paying taxes, or commit a crime, I'm sure you'll attract more eyes than you'll ever want have!

I've read, in the old days coming through Ellis Island, folks that had infectious diseases were turned around and sent home. It's seldom mentioned now.

Travel Warning
United States Department of State
Bureau of Consular Affairs
Washington, DC 20520

This information is current as of today, Thu May 11 2006 21:50:52 GMT-0700.

NEPAL

May 11, 2006

This Travel Warning is being issued to alert American citizens that the Department of State has authorized the lifting of the Ordered Departure Status for the Embassy and the Embassy has returned to normal operations. This Travel Warning also provides updated information on the security situation in Nepal. This supersedes the Travel Warning issued on April 24, 2006. The Department of State remains concerned about the security situation in Nepal. Despite the announcement of a ceasefire, Maoist extortion and abductions continue. Maoists are now free to roam about the countryside, sometimes still openly bearing their weapons. Travel via road in some areas outside of the Kathmandu valley continues to be dangerous and should be avoided. There have been attacks in the countryside involving foreigners. Trekkers and other individuals who resist Maoist extortion demands have been threatened, sometimes assaulted, and risk being detained. In March 2006, Maoists detained several Polish trekkers after the trekkers refused to pay extortion.

The Embassy has periodically received information that the Maoists might attempt to attack or take actions specifically against U.S. citizens, particularly in regions of the country where Maoists are active. On a number of occasions, Maoists have burned or bombed tourist resorts after the foreigners staying there were given short notice to evacuate. The Maoists have also periodically detonated bombs within Kathmandu itself. On September 10, 2004, two bombs exploded at the American Center compound. There were no injuries, but the blasts damaged the facility. The suspension of Peace Corps activities, which was announced on September 14, 2004, will continue until further notice.

While widespread protests have abated, the potential for demonstrations and disruptions remains. During recent demonstrations protestors used violence, including burning vehicles, throwing rocks during street demonstrations and burning tires to block traffic. Government security forces responded with teargas, rubber bullets, and live ammunition to quell the demonstrations. Given the nature, intensity and unpredictability of disturbances, American citizens are urged to exercise special caution during times when demonstrations are announced, avoid areas where demonstrations are occurring or crowds are forming, avoid road travel and maintain a low profile. American citizens are urged to consult media sources and the Embassy's website (http://nepal.usembassy.gov) for current security information.

U.S. citizens are advised to avoid road travel outside the Kathmandu Valley. During recent road closures, Maoist cadres attacked commercial trucks, buses and private vehicles defying their blockades, sometimes killing or severely injuring drivers. In April 2005, two Russian tourists were injured when a bomb exploded on the highway near their taxi while driving east toward Jiri, Dolakha district. During announced road closures in the past, the Embassy received widespread reports of Maoists forcibly blocking major roads throughout the country, including roads to Tibet, India, Chitwan, Pokhara, and Jiri. During some closures, some districts were blockaded without warning. In March and April 2006, Maoists forcibly blocked all traffic coming into and out of the Kathmandu valley. U.S. citizens are encouraged to contact the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu for the latest security information, and to travel by air whenever possible.

Because of heightened security risks, U.S. official personnel do not generally travel by road outside the Kathmandu Valley. All official travel outside the Kathmandu valley, including by air, requires specific clearance by the Regional Security Officer. As a result, emergency assistance to U.S. citizens may be limited. Active duty military and Department of Defense contractors must obtain a country clearance for official and unofficial travel to Nepal.

Although the Government of Nepal has removed its own terrorist tag from the Maoists, the Department of State designation of the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) as a “Specially Designated Global Terrorist” organization under the "Terrorist Exclusion List" of the Immigration and Nationality Act and under Executive Order 13224 remains. These two designations make Maoists excludable from entry into the United States and bars U.S. citizens from transactions such as contribution of funds, goods, or services to, or for the benefit of, the Maoists.

Although the rate of violent crime is low in Kathmandu, street crime does occur and has increased there as well as in other areas frequented by foreigners. Solo trekkers have also been robbed by small groups of young men, even on some popular trails. Although attacks against foreigners are rare, in late 2005 two European women were murdered in Nargarjun Forest, a popular tourist destination. The two murders occurred within weeks of each other and both involved women hiking alone. The body and valuables of one woman were recovered and theft did not appear to be the motivation behind the crime. Both crimes remain unsolved and no culprit(s) has been identified.

U.S. citizens who travel to or reside in Nepal despite this Travel Warning should factor the potential for violence into their plans, avoid public demonstrations and maintain low profiles while in Nepal. U.S. citizens are urged to register with the Consular Section of the Embassy by accessing the Department of State’s travel registration site at https://travelregistration.state.gov or by personal appearance at the Consular Section. The Consular Section is located at the Yak and Yeti Hotel complex on Durbarmarg Street. The section can be reached directly at (977) (1) 444-5577 or through the Embassy switchboard. The U.S. Embassy is located at Pani Pokhari in Kathmandu, telephone (977) (1) 441-1179; fax (977) (1) 444-4981, website http://nepal.usembassy.gov. The Consular Section can provide updated information on travel and security.

U.S. citizens should also consult the Department of State's Consular Information Sheet for Nepal and Worldwide Caution Public Announcement via the Internet on the Department of State's home page at http://travel.state.gov or by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States, or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

Iran Says Israel Will Vanish One Day:

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad warned that Israel will "one day vanish," ramping up the stakes in the midst of frantic international diplomacy over Tehran's nuclear ambitions.

In speeches to students in Jakarta, he shrugged off the threat of sanctions or even war and accused the West of peddling lies and oppression. "This regime one day will vanish," Ahmadinejad said of the Jewish state in comments that echoed previous statements, in which he said Israel should be "wiped off the map" and also questioned the Holocaust.

In Beijing, a Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said the stand-off was now at "a critical moment," and called for fresh diplomatic efforts. He warned, however, that "China is opposed to arbitrarily resorting to the use of sanctions or the use of force in international affairs."

Jail for animal rights extremists who stole body of elderly woman from her grave
The Guardian ^ | May 12, 2006 | Steven Morris, David Ward and Riazat Butt

Posted on 05/11/2006 10:46:48 PM PDT by MadIvan

Three animal rights extremists involved in the theft of the body of an elderly woman from her grave were yesterday jailed for 12 years each in what is seen by police and prosecutors as a groundbreaking case.

The militants, including a vicar's son and a psychiatric nurse, led what they called a "holocaust" against a farm which bred guinea pigs for medical research. Jon Ablewhite, John Smith and Kerry Whitburn pursued a six-year hate campaign against Darley Oaks farm in Newchurch, Staffordshire. Whitburn's girlfriend, Josephine Mayo, was sentenced to four years for a lesser part in the campaign.

Almost 100 people connected to the farm were targeted. Explosive devices were sent to some, mail threatening to kill and maim to others. There were attacks on homes, cars and businesses. The relentless campaign culminated in the theft of the body of Gladys Hammond, a close relative of the Hall family who ran the farm, from her grave in October 2004.

Congress may clamp down on MySpace

New legislation from Congress would block access to social-networking sites like MySpace and Facebook in schools and libraries, including instant-messaging services.

The bill known as the "The Deleting Online Predators Act" introduced by Rep. Michael G. Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., aims at protecting minors from online child predators.

I agree in part, and disagree in part. Not because I endorse child molesters or predators.

I agree that the move by congress to ban certain web sites to protect our children from on line predators is good and will send a clear message that those web sites are being monitored for child molesters and/or predators thereof.

I haven't read the full content of the act yet, so I may be jumping to an unfounded conclusion. But, squint your eyes and look down stream, and for a moment think long term. I disagree on who will be doing the monitoring, and who will decide and choose which sites get shut down and which remain open? That person, or group doing the monitoring can find cause, to shut any site down, including this one? And that’s the foreseeable danger of allowing a governmental body or congress to meddle with the Internet!

Once started, there's no stopping tyranny after that. The safety of our children is most important, but abuse by big brother is also a long term concern.
