As the race for state attorney general was beginning to take shape several months ago, two of the Democratic candidates, Assemblyman Richard Brodsky and Andrew M. Cuomo, made a pact: They would disclose how they made all their money last year.
But now, with Mr. Cuomo the presumed front-runner and the state party's convention just a month away, Mr. Cuomo has not released the information. And Mr. Brodsky, who stands far behind in the polls, is crying foul.
"This is a matter of ethics," Mr. Brodsky said, in an interview yesterday. "It's about avoiding potential conflict and whether or not the candidate for the chief law enforcement of the state has a conflict that should be disclosed."
Mr. Brodsky made public a list of his clients and earnings this week, along with a list of all the legal cases that he has been involved in during the last decade.
The fight is just the latest flare-up in the take-no-prisoners battle for the party's nomination, which pits six candidates against one another, all of them lawyers and many known for combative politicking.
The next month is expected to be particularly intense, as the candidates jockey to get enough support at the convention to get on the party's Sept. 12 primary ballot, a goal that Mr. Cuomo is widely expected to achieve.
Candidates for attorney general are not required to disclose lists of their legal clients. But Mr. Brodsky, who represents Westchester, said that he and Mr. Cuomo had agreed to release the information along with their income tax data, and added that he had written the other candidates in the Democratic field, asking them to do the same.
