Sorry, Mr. S., but that one went over my head.

Do you mean the corporate-owned gas stations or the third-world Islamofascist countries where the crude is tapped?

Only a fool is "short oil" these days.

Well, I've been called a fool before...but I bought a new house and a new car with my investment proceeds anyway.

Flame away, I will. What you wrote was of the tinfoil het variety. I guarantee that if the environuts and the spineless pols who pander to them were not holding back drilling, we would be tapping that crude. Feel free to prove me wrong.

I was speaking of the countries it's pumped out of, not the stations. My Dad used to own a Getty station.

Unnoticed in the northern hemisphere, one country is pioneering a transportation revolution by switching from petrol to ethanol. That country is Brazil.

Fine article but Brazil in not really in the northern hemisphere as the great majority of it lies south of the equator

..we would (not) be tapping the (our) crude.

They'd come up with another excuse, the wackos are just being used as an excuse.

$neakyman Inc. , as I call the powers backstage at the big show, always keep things at bay by several layers.

Regardless of the financial reasons, oil is a mere playing card more important as a leverage of manipulation.

Evidence for your conspiracy theory, please.

Especially helpful would be what "excuse" the evil powers that be would give for not tapping our oil reserves.

It looks like we have aways to go.

I just wish we had started this back during the 1973 Arab Oil Embargo-- we have so much catching-up to do, it's not funny.

If you tried to sell what is happening as a screenplay, it's so ironic & absurd nobody would buy it:

1) Ted Kennedy demagogues the Evils of Big Oil-- and while we starve for oil, and he fights a wind farm offshore of his compound...

2) Our Navy uses nuclear power safely, in the most hostile environment ( Marine service ) without a fatality for 50 years-- yet people think "The China Syndrome" was somehow "more like real life," and fear nuclear power...

3) Oh, Hell, I could ramble on, but the point is, the problems facing us are engineering problems which have largely been solved already, and whatever few remain can be solved with time, talent and money, like any engineering problem.

The real, underlying problem is a lack of leadership, and political will to fix things.

Ahem! How many of you saw my self-correction but still had to give me a slap?

OOOOPPPPPSSSS! 97.6 pence!

You Brits got to change that - it sounds too much like pennies. :)

(After a long run through the woods the oxygen was trapped in my legs slowing down my brain.)

#2 ( nukes is bad) was fomented, in a word, by big oil, gov., & hollywood libs, who are in bed more often than most suspect.
