Some citizens look to offset planned illegal immigrant boycott
KVOA Tucson Channel 4 News ^ | Paul Cicala

With no immediate solution in sight to immigration issues, demonstrators are calling for a boycott to underscore the economic power of immigrants.

Millions of people, including those in the U.S. illegally, are expected to skip work and boycott businesses nationwide on Monday.

However, some are hoping a simple e-mail message will slow that boycott's momentum.

Millions of Americans log on to their computers to check their e-mails every single day, and some people are taking advantage of the current era of cyberspace technology to voice their opinions on immigration reform by forwarding mass e-mails.

“To all the real Americans, you can do one small thing on May 1st: Spend money to counteract those boycotting businesses to show their support for illegal immigrants."

That's the message some people are circulating on the internet.

“I think the Americans should get out there and spend their money,” says Al Garcia, a native Tucsonan.

Garcia says he's against anybody intentionally skipping work on Monday or avoiding spending their money to make a political point.

“When those illegals and their supporters do a boycott like this, they do a disservice to the Mexican Americans that are from here," Garcia says.

Garcias says when he sees the mass e-mail going around saying, "Hold off grocery buying until May 1st ,” and “If it needs to be bought, buy it May 1st ,” he takes an opportunity to “show that the country isn't totally dependent on illegal aliens.”

“They’re exaggerating about the issue,” says Miguel Escobedo, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen.

Escobedo plans on skipping work on Monday to show his support for illegal immigrants, and doesn't feel like the e-mails from those on the other side of the issue will make much of a difference.

“They’re not going to stop us from being part of the boycott and marching on Monday,” says Escobedo.

Jim Doligale, a Tucson resident, says, "You can spend as much money as you want, but many businesses will shut down anyway."

However, Garcia and others against the boycott and illegal immigration say that every dollar spent on May 1st counts.

“Get out and buy things that you would have bought last week to save it till Monday,” says Garcia.

I have held off commenting on the immigration crisis hoping the government in Washington would finally take steps to protect America. It now seems that we can expect little from a Congress apparently too polarized to act in the best interest of America.
A limited number of immigrants can be beneficial to a nation. Provided that those who apply for citizenship obey our laws and meet certain qualifications, they are welcome.
Those qualifications should include: sound health; educated to a certain level; be self-sufficient; speak, read and write English, possess marketable skills; swear an oath of loyalty to America; be willing to assimilate into our culture, have a working knowledge of how our economic system works, and meet any other INS requirements to become a citizen.
Lady Liberty’s bad poetry aside (“Send us your poor, blah, blah”), I do not recall that America has ever advertised for immigrants. People who come here do so uninvited and of their own accord. America owes them nothing.
I don’t know about you but I am sick and tired of the expression, “America is a land of immigrants,” as if every country from Auckland to Zanzibar had a representative aboard the Mayflower.
It is a myth that we are a nation of immigrants. We are not. We are a nation that, thanks to the sacrifice and hard work of others, became a country attractive to immigrants.
The people who first came to America were explorers and settlers, not immigrants. It’s not just a matter of semantics. Settlers do not find a plug-it-in-and-turn-it-on land all prepared for them as immigrants do. Settlers must face extreme danger, suffer hardships, even death, and without help, build shelter and grow food just to survive. They must then laboriously build a nation from scratch.
Furthermore, all of the original settlers came from a relatively small area of Western Europe. Later people from Central and Eastern Europe arrived to help build the nation.
The original settlers had many things in common including a Judeo-Christian tradition, basic Indo-European Romance languages, a work ethic, an acceptance of authority and an understanding of common law and democratic institutions.
There were no Asians, Patagonians, Hindus, Muslims, Moroccans, Eskimos, Polynesians Jamaicans, Puerto Ricans, Koreans, South Americans, Haitians, or Sri Lankiness.

Slaves forcibly brought to North America were eventually freed and took part in the subsequent further building and developing of the nation and its traditions and culture.
Why is mass immigration so dangerous? Because it is the direct cause of the fall of so many advanced civilizations in the past. Unless it was conquered and destroyed, every great civilization that failed did so because it was overwhelmed by an enormous population invasion of barbarians or other less-civilized people.
Unable to assimilate or function in a higher more sophisticated civilized environment, the newcomers quickly pulled down to ruin the civilizations they inundated.
Nowhere in the history of mankind can multiculturalism be shown to have been a benefit. One or two cultures can sometimes live together in reasonable harmony, but mixing many cultures together is a recipe for disaster, as history clearly shows.
Another myth is that illegal aliens take jobs Americans won’t take. That factoid should be put to bed.
The law of supply and demand is alive and well. If illegal aliens were not around to take the low wages offered, employers would be forced to raise the rate to a level that would attract workers.
There are other ominous signs that the immigration crisis is coming to an ugly head.
A small but vocal group is demanding the return of Arizona, California and New Mexico to Mexico. (I might go along with that demand if they were willing to also accept Massachusetts.)
The spectacle of illegal aliens stampeding in America’s cities, demanding rights, blocking business and the free movement of U.S. citizens, to protest enforcement of the laws they have broken, is, as they say, unacceptable.
The present unarmed invasion we are going through is no different than an armed invasion. Armies made up of waves of illegal aliens have the same objectives: to take and occupy territory, seize resources, and establish its own laws, language and culture.
I believe there are three first steps that must be taken to defeat the invasion from Mexico:
(1) Immediately build barriers or walls at strategic points along the borders and patrol the spaces in between with our military. (2) Deport all illegal aliens now in the U.S. And (3) declare a moratorium of 50 to 75 years on all immigration except for cases of political asylum.
The reason for the wall (1) is obvious. A nation that cannot preserve and protect its borders is no longer a nation. It loses its sovereignty and anarchy follows.
Deportation (2) is vital. It would take years to find and deport all of the illegal aliens now hiding in America. Nevertheless, the process must start now no matter how difficult.
An immigration moratorium (3) is needed to allow time to get control of the borders, reform immigration laws, deport illegal aliens, and give resident aliens time to become citizens and to assimilate.
It’s almost too late. We must begin to defend ourselves now, or take the French option: surrender.

In case you are lurking, waterfork:

Are you aware of what we've done to this land in the last 200 hundred years?

Made it the greatestforce for good in the history of the World. Ended Naziism, Fascism and Communism (and hipefully soon, Islam).

That 1/4 of this country is actually part of Mexico and was taken illegally during the Mexican American war and then ethnically cleansed systematically of its original inhabitants?

We won, they lost. And it was sold to us. That is the way of the world and wars. The winner gets the spoils. Point to any point on the map and I can show you how current occupants "illegally" kicked out the previous occupants.

If you feel invaded, imagine how the native americans feel! If you honestly want to cut back on illegal immigration I suggest that you go back across the Atlantic to your homeland!

There is so much silliness in this part it is hard to getr it all. The Native Americans have nothing to do with this. But if you want to personally pay for all the social services by the illegal hoardes coming over our border, then pull out your checkbook. Don't try to make ME pay for YOUR guilt. And I was born here. This is my homeland.

You people are so pathetically lacking in your commitment that the most you can "sacrifice" to your "cause" is to engage in yet another shopping spree.

We are using economic force from legal people to offset attempted economic warfare (which will fail BTW). Sounds like a great sacrifice to me.

Why don't you be true to the racist undertones in all of the comments about "illegal" immigration and realize what you truly are.

How silly and pathetic to play the race card. This is all about criminal invaders, not race. We "truly are" Americans defending our soil.

Just wait till Tuesday, and we boycott the places that shut down Monday. It isn't going to be for just a day either. They might even have to lay off or fire some Illegals...tsk, tsk.

"Money talks. Losers walk"...

Nope saw the Troll that just signed up today to do a poor imitation of a sick cat hacking up a hairball and he's being ignored. If you wish you can go back to #17 and hit the Abuse button on him. Sometimes it's better to just leave them alone when they make a stupid reply; then they get emboldened and really go DU like posting a thread, then the Viking Kitties get to have fun!!!!

Number one, just because you started the thread does NOT make you the thread monitor. We have moderators for that.

Number two, I responded to post # 17- and the poster has been suspended. I did not post to you.

Perhaps you've never read a ZOT thread...Lighten up buddy it's the weekend.

Have a great afternoon!

What if everybody said Oh Ya I guess I will skip work tomorrow. I would like to stay home and see the Nascar race but I am scheduled to be somewhere and I will honor my responsibility.

Wow! What a tissy fit!! So we took some Mexican land?! We won it fair and square. They signed the deal, and a deal's a deal! Besides, I support Mexicans. My landscapers are Mexican, my housekeepers are Mexican, and my cook is a Mexican. And I pay them fair and square. Plus, they get every other Sunday afternoon off, for Church, or shopping, or whatever.

I don't know if it violates FR rules, yet.

For example, if it's publicized that TYSON will close it's plants, then it's probably OK.

But we don't want to have a problem with law suits. We'll see what the Mods say tomorrow :)
