Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly issued the following statement this evening after this afternoons shooting at the Sully District Police Station in Chantilly, Va.
In a tragic irony on the day of nationwide remembrance of fallen officers Fairfax County has lost one of its own in the line of duty.
All of Fairfax County mourns the loss of an exemplary detective. Over the years, each and every day our law enforcement officers have worked to protect our community and to make Fairfax County the safest jurisdiction of its size in the United States.
Today, one of those officers made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our community and another is in critical condition after hours of surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families tonight.
As the police chief stated, all information points to the act of a lone, troubled individual, not a conspiracy, not the act of terrorism. It would appear that the gunman specifically targeted our police.
Fairfax County is a big and diverse place but it is a community we will stand together with our public safety officers and in deep respect and sympathy for their fallen comrades, together we will begin the healing process and move forward.
That's because it's pretty easy to determine at that point it probably wasn't terrorist or gang related.
Unless you know of some pretty nasty, pasty white Goth gangs running about.
Chief Moose never said one word about the appearance or identity of the sniper suspects.
It's truly remarkable how people are unable to remember even recent history accurately.
Neither Moose or any other law enforcement source ever publicly identified the DC sniper suspects as white. ALL there was was the stuff about a white panel van or truck.
The ONLY people who ever mentioned the sniper suspects were white were outside consultants brought in by the various cable news networks, who had no connection to the case, who were simply profiling to fill time on the networks.
Where is this townhouse? Just the name of the general area it's in would do fine. I'm interested in knowing what's assessed at "only" $320k in Fairfax.
That's right. They didn't dare say a race.
Sure, it could be some white kook as much as anyone else, but if it was a Hispanic (because the gangs do this all the time in Mexico), no one would say anything about it. Right now, the immigration debate has people way to riled already. It could start a lot of trouble.
"It reminds me of an incident that happened with General Patton, right before Operation Husky iirc. Patton called in the press, showed them the invasion maps and walked them through the operation ... before it happened. He then admonished them about what was on the line if they talked (let alone ran the story), and allegedly later remarked that it was probably the only night of the war that the press actually stayed sober."
Yep, but that was back in the days when the American press was actually pro-American! Can you imagine a similiar situation today? I shudder at the thought.
There is no excuse for this kids actions, he killed one Cop and severely wounded another, and he himself, is graveyard dead. Read the friggin article before you make such an ass of yourself
He wasnt a terminator. When he got shot, he was wearing this body armor. and he had super strengh when he was on PCP! he probably broke every bone in his hand punching through that windshield. won't feel it for hours.
I worked at Dulles Corner--28 and the Dulles Toll Road--from 1987 when AT&T built the first building out there, to 1989. I remember when 28 was just a flat, straight TWO-LANE road. I used to stand at the window at work and watch the crews widening the 28/267 interchange. Fortunately I could back-road my way to work--a short hop down Centerville Road (also two lanes) when I lived in Herndon, or up Fox Mill Road when I lived in Oakton. As long as it didn't snow, I was good.
I probably wouldn't recognize the area anymore. All those roads were still just two lanes, or at most four (Lee Highway and US 50).
Police Chief David Rohrer said a 40-year-old female detective who died at a hospital after the shooting became the first officer to die at the hands of an assailant in the 66-year history of the department.
And police said a 53-year-old officer remains in critical condition after undergoing surgery late Monday night. It was not clear whether the third officer, a 28-year-old man, was shot or sustained his injuries from flying glass or a ricocheting bullet.
"My 1,320 officers, plus our civilian employees and all of our employees are grieving," Rohrer said. "We are supporting the family of the officer who is seriously wounded and we are supporting, obviously, the family of the officer who was killed in the line of duty."
Police have identified the suspected gunman as 18-year-old Michael Kennedy. They said he targeted the officers. Authorities said the female detective had recently served a criminal warrant on the suspect, resulting from an argument during which a dog was killed.
Police said Kennedy was killed in the exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of the station during the 3:30 p.m. attack.
Update at 262
Here we go again....A DOG was killed. Something screwy going on in BLET (Basic Law Enforcement Training). Anyone have the CALEA standards on shooting dogs?
This morning they said the kid was hiding in the woods adjacent to the police station parking lot. They also said this kid, who had just graduated last year from a local high school, had been arrested recently for carjacking in Maryland. The kid was a Goth adherent.
WOW! what a change from when I lived in Chantilly!
I graduated from Chantilly HS in 1979, joined the Marine Corp and haven't been back since. I am sure the whole place would be alien looking to me now. Didn't even go to my 20th high school reunion because I wanted to keep my memories as they were.
I will keep my memories of 28 and 50 being mostly wide open fields; going to Downs store after school before they built the Dart store area in Brookfield subdivision. Heck, when I worked at Dulles Airport I would drive by the Redskins training area. (I understand that is no longer there)
Met my husband in the USMC, he was from Fairfax, VA, been married 25 years and counting! :-)
The liberals want the perps to get away, probably.
A massive poophole, IMHO. I should know, I lived there until 2001. A contractor converted the house next to me into a bunkhouse for his braceros. After 3 months of screaming drunks, broken doors, mexican whores and daylight drug deals I got out of there. I was frankly amazed that I was able to sell my house.
Yep, London Towne is the ghetto.
28 and 50 interchange is a traffic-choked nightmare surrounded by big-box stores, corporate office parks and cheap airport hotels.
I should know, it's right down the street from me. Sigh. Off to fight the traffic over there for my son's music class.
It was just a picture of a fool with a tatoo on his head. : )
For full disclosure, I added the keyword "aliens" to the keyword list, so that this thread can be documented as an example, IMO, of some on FR's wild specualtion and inate ethnic animus.
Do you have to use the word "animus" in every post?
Its getting annoying.
Perhaps I should add the keyword "Horse's Ass" to any thread you post in . . .
My speculation as to what the evildoer was up to is every bit as valid as all the others on this thread, thank you.
Go right ahead, I ain't going to argue with you that you are an expert in the subject of "Horse's Ass".
"Police said Kennedy was killed in the exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of the station during the 3:30 p.m. attack."
At least we don't have to worry about wasting tax-payers money on a trial. I have no doubt the b@stard's trial before Our Lord is already over and he's rotting in the flames of hell!
Check out Post 273, Dane's trying his best to sound intelligent and fails once again.
WMAL news (AM 630) said they have not located the shooter's parents yet!
It is interesting to note that the sound bites on the "news" today (radio, anyway) don't mention the connection between the officer who was killed, her serving the warrant, and the original crime of the argument and Kennedy killing the dog.
Obviously, this kid was a severly disturbed individual. Any info on the parents??
What a tragedy for the officer murdered, the other injured officers, their families and the police force in Fairfax County. My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims.
While Moose had the public looking for a white van, it was actually two black guys in a blue car who were murdering people at will.
"WMAL news (AM 630) said they have not located the shooter's parents yet!"
That can't be good. Have they said anything about whether the dirtbag had brothers/sisters? I can just bet the anti-gun scum are going to try and play this for all it's worth. It won't get them anywhere however. So far pro-self-defense laws keep rolling out of the works.
He must have killed his parents, then, too. (speculation)
Sounds like John Muhammed's white pickup, diversion at work.
Back in April...Kennedy broke out of the Potomac Ridge Behavioral Health Center sometime after 6:30 p.m. Police arrived shortly after 10 p.m. to investigate. About an hour later, Fairfax County police arrested Kennedy in a stolen Toyota 4-Runner in their jurisdiction
Good point. Many thanks. I will follow this story with interest.
I dunno. What would you call it? Goth enthusiast? Goth practitioner? Gothist?
Sure was. My son was working a job 3 blocks from there when it all happened. He said every police unit from the surrounding area seemed to be there. Took him 2.5 hours to make the normally 20 minute drive home.
