Yes, what is strange is the police told WTOP the name of the female detective who was murdered, but WTOP won't release the name.

They said he was on the track team - he looks like he ate too many twinkies to be on the track team.

Not necessarily. Chances are that the local stations are going to find out somehow, so it's better to give them the information up front, with the condition that they don't release it until given the ok. It also allows them to prep their stories and have them ready to run when the ok is given.

It reminds me of an incident that happened with General Patton, right before Operation Husky iirc. Patton called in the press, showed them the invasion maps and walked them through the operation ... before it happened. He then admonished them about what was on the line if they talked (let alone ran the story), and allegedly later remarked that it was probably the only night of the war that the press actually stayed sober.

One of the local TV stations reported the shooters street address. I wont post it. I looked up the real estate records. Townhouse built in 1983, purchased in 1990, currently assessed at $320,000. Man and woman both with same last name as shooter are listed as owners.

It'll be interesting to see where he got them and how (not to mention how the extremist "guns=evil" crowd reacts). There was a big gun show, either last weekend or the weekend before, at the Dulles Expo Center ... which is almost right across Rt.28 from where the ambush happened.

Fairfax County Board Chairman Releases Statement On Today’s Shooting of County Police Officers

Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald E. Connolly issued the following statement this evening after this afternoon’s shooting at the Sully District Police Station in Chantilly, Va.

“In a tragic irony – on the day of nationwide remembrance of fallen officers – Fairfax County has lost one of its own in the line of duty.

“All of Fairfax County mourns the loss of an exemplary detective. Over the years, each and every day our law enforcement officers have worked to protect our community and to make Fairfax County the safest jurisdiction of its size in the United States.

“Today, one of those officers made the ultimate sacrifice in service of our community and another is in critical condition after hours of surgery. Our thoughts and prayers are with their families tonight.

“As the police chief stated, all information points to the act of a lone, troubled individual, not a conspiracy, not the act of terrorism. It would appear that the gunman specifically targeted our police.

“Fairfax County is a big and diverse place but it is a community – we will stand together with our public safety officers and in deep respect and sympathy for their fallen comrades, together we will begin the healing process and move forward.”

But it was amazing how fast some were so sure it was a hispanic gang and when found it was a messed up white guy goth, the "air" went out out of this thread.

That's because it's pretty easy to determine at that point it probably wasn't terrorist or gang related.

Unless you know of some pretty nasty, pasty white Goth gangs running about.

Actually that was Chief Moose.

Chief Moose never said one word about the appearance or identity of the sniper suspects.

It's truly remarkable how people are unable to remember even recent history accurately.

Neither Moose or any other law enforcement source ever publicly identified the DC sniper suspects as white. ALL there was was the stuff about a white panel van or truck.

The ONLY people who ever mentioned the sniper suspects were white were outside consultants brought in by the various cable news networks, who had no connection to the case, who were simply profiling to fill time on the networks.

Where is this townhouse? Just the name of the general area it's in would do fine. I'm interested in knowing what's assessed at "only" $320k in Fairfax.

You can bet that since it seems it is a white guy, it won't make dobbs or weiner's(savage) show. Whatever. We were looking for a lone white guy during the Sniper siege. They got that one wrong, too.

That's right. They didn't dare say a race.
Sure, it could be some white kook as much as anyone else, but if it was a Hispanic (because the gangs do this all the time in Mexico), no one would say anything about it. Right now, the immigration debate has people way to riled already. It could start a lot of trouble.

Yep, but that was back in the days when the American press was actually pro-American! Can you imagine a similiar situation today? I shudder at the thought.

The kid who killed the Police Officer was 18 years old and was not even of age to drink in a bar...... What an ignorant statement.

There is no excuse for this kids actions, he killed one Cop and severely wounded another, and he himself, is graveyard dead. Read the friggin article before you make such an ass of yourself

I worked at Dulles Corner--28 and the Dulles Toll Road--from 1987 when AT&T built the first building out there, to 1989. I remember when 28 was just a flat, straight TWO-LANE road. I used to stand at the window at work and watch the crews widening the 28/267 interchange. Fortunately I could back-road my way to work--a short hop down Centerville Road (also two lanes) when I lived in Herndon, or up Fox Mill Road when I lived in Oakton. As long as it didn't snow, I was good.

I probably wouldn't recognize the area anymore. All those roads were still just two lanes, or at most four (Lee Highway and US 50).
