If they have something like a suitcase nuke, they could just as easily bring it in via Mexico. The border is wide open as a matter of national policy, and I'm sure those elements of the Mexican army working with the drug lords would happily assist.
Unless Washington itself is the target.
"This is far too much chest thumping for someone who doesn't have some type of ace up his sleeve."
He either has a nuke, or something that can do some significant damage. No one is so stupid as to bluff like he has been, considering the consequences of getting called on it.
Perhaps an answer to your question...
"Reaction to the letter was mixed in Iran and across the Mideast.
Iranian newspapers described the message as "an initiative in global diplomacy" and "dialogue under the shadow of war."
But conservative lawmaker Hashmatollah Falahatpisheh lambasted Ahmadinejad for failing to consult parliament before sending the letter to the country Iran considers its greatest enemy.
"This message is the outcome of a series of taboo-breaking behaviors in Iran's foreign policy. ... That the parliament is not aware of (the contents of the) letter is questionable," Falahatpisheh told an open session of the parliament broadcast live on state-run radio Tuesday.
Among Gulf nations, the letter fueled suspicions toward Iran.
The Saudi-owned daily Asharq Al-Awsat called the letter proof that "Iran is not enriching uranium for peaceful purposes as it says, and is striving for leadership and control of the region."
Such Iranian leadership would mean the Israeli-Palestinian peace process "would be stalled, the Iraqi dream (of democracy) would be thwarted and we would witness a new wave of armament," wrote Tariq Alhomayed, the paper's editor-in-chief.
The Kuwaiti newspaper Arab Times ran an editorial in which editor-in-chief Ahmed Al-Jarallah accused Ahmadinejad of acting "as if he owns the region."
Some of Iran's Arab neighbors have expressed fears over Iran's nuclear program particularly over pollution in case of an accident as well as over the standoff with the West, fearing possible Iranian retaliation against American military bases in Kuwait, Qatar and Bahrain should the U.S. launch a pre-emptive strike."

Nah...go back to sleep...
First off there is no such thing as a "suitcase" nuke in terms of it being that size - It is more like a "large locker" size nuke -
Additionally it is complete foolishness to suggest such an item could be walked into our border. Much more is happening along our borders regarding WMDs, dirty bombs, profiling, etc...then can openly be talked about (and for very valid reasons!).
Think NSA Op that was outed and the country is worse off because of that.
Bump for a very interesting thread.
I trust that President Bush knows what he is doing, but I am personally getting very tired of waiting.
I wake up every morning and check FR hoping to see that the effort to take down the IRAN threat has begun... and every day I see nothing.
Please let's get on with this. We saw that the UN approach is too slow with Iraq and allowed him to hide everything.
Who released this letter ?
Iran or the White House ?
I've been thinking we'll be lucky to get to the elections before that reality, myself...
Ahmadinejad's comments seem consistent with it being a final invitation to convert to islam (from your posted article):
As he boarded a plane for Indonesia on Tuesday, Ahmadinejad said his letter contained "the demands of Iranian people and our nation."
"I discussed our views, beliefs and positions regarding international issues as well as some ways out of problems humanity is suffering from," he told the official Islamic Republic News Agency. "We will wait for reaction ... and then we'll make decisions."
The repeated reference to "monotheism" in the letter is a typical way islamists approach the conversion of Christians, that is, in seeking to have them renounce the divinity of Christ.
You obviously have not been reading any of the threads regarding Iran. The President of Iran is trying to bring the apocalypse so that the reign of the 12th Imam can begin. He is building a hotel to house this re-born Imam. This 12th Imam is to crawl out of a well in Tehran to punish the "Non-believers". This is not speculation, this is what this nut wants to do. He has said several times in their press.
The best solution is for Iran and their insane leaders to be overthrown from within. Anything the rest of the world could do to speed up an internal revolution would be welcomed by all.
Perhaps. But we've given them 27 years to do so, and now Iran is about to get the bomb. It can't be allowed. This isn't an "Imperialist American" speaking, but a person who realizes crazy people running a country under the thrall of crazy Islam will use any weapons it can get it's cloven hooves on.
Just my opinion....
But in reading this rambling letter it seems clear to me that he is trying to get Americans and others in the world to question our Government and test our faith in our system. Nothing more....
He is trying to build up his perceived importance of which he has none.
Consider the "overtures" of your murderous cult of death hereby rejected. Bring it.
From what I've read on this situation, the internal resistance lacks organization, weapons, and communications capabilities. The rulers have a "fear" society in place where dissent is punished. There is not time to develop an internal revolution. This could be wrong, or disinformation, but that is what I have read.
I think the interpretation in post #51 is more on target.
It reads like it was written by Kerry. with help from Dean, Pelosi, and Dingy Harry.
