Tancredo Rips Government’s Spying of Minutemen

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressmen Tom Tancredo (R-CO) decried a recently-disclosed U.S. Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) practice of tipping off the Mexican military to the location of Minutemen volunteers. According to a story in this morning’s Inland Daily Bulletin, CBP notifies the Mexican government of when and where the Minutemen are planning to monitor the border and if violence is used by the Minutemen against illegal aliens. There has not been one verified instance of Minutemen volunteers using violence against illegal aliens.

“The Mexican military doesn’t exactly have a ‘good government’ reputation. The Border Patrol has documented more than two hundred incursions into the U.S by the Mexican military, and Texas sheriffs even apprehended Mexican government vehicles that were used to ferry drug runners across the border. By tipping off Mexico’s military to the Minutemen’s location, the U.S. government is asking for trouble,” said Tancredo.

“Heavily-armed military officials stationed only yards from civilians are at least intimidating. I can only surmise that the Border Patrol bureaucrats’ spying is meant to have a chilling effect on the Minutemen’s recruitment of more volunteers,” said Tancredo.

“The Minutemen haven’t been accused of breaking the law. Quite the contrary—they have gone out of their way to aid law enforcement and ensure the safety of our border. The U.S. government has no grounds upon which to stifle the Minutemen’s constitutional right to organize,” Tancredo concluded. “I want to know the legal basis for CBP informing a foreign government of the activities of private citizens who are obeying the law.”

I just can't hardly believe this. I mean, I know it is true, but it is so disappointing. How our government could treat Patriots this way is beyond me. The Republicans better put a stop to it.

It is time for all Republican's to stand tall and not stand for this. Remember we are the Republican party and we define where it goes.

I see this issue as another reason to call and demand this stop now. Support the Minutemen financially too. Support all anti-amnesty/strong border patrol candidates and politicians. If each and everyone of us do this, it will add up and shift what is happening. Keep the faith, do the footwork . . . what is the alternative? To give up and let out own government hand our country to the Mexicans? No!!

This is the time to participate and say we will not tolerate or except this betrayal. No blame, no passive whining--fight! Fight for America--our forefathers did and we shall too!

If the American gov't is against us, who's on our side?

Seriously folks, I haven't gotten a real response on this, but are we doomed to fight against a growing monster of a federal gov't? Is the Republic in which we live slowly turning into a nanny state that Reagan warned us about? I don't see any hope for the future of this country past 2008. If Bush has failed us, what's next?

This story will go nowhere. the MSM will bury it, if it ever even makes it to the fore.

I don't know whether it's true or not. It's just too hard for me to believe it. If it IS true, it makes me identify with Dorothy in Oz--"I'm not in Oz anymore." If true, I don't recognize my country.

If the President saw this and was in support of enforcing our borders, he would immediately order the powers that be to knock it off.

Chances are that he is the power that be who ordered this in the first place.

If the Minutemen do nothing wrong, they have nothing to fear. The government spies on everyone else, why should they be exempt?

Hooray for Congressmen Tom Tancredo!

Our federal government is GUILTY of TREASON from the top on down for tipping off the Thieving Mexican Government. As an American, I am getting mighty pissed off!

Very interesting -- I used to take that paper when we lived in SoCal and they were pretty reasonable...

BTW, on topic but they are trying to get an ordinance to make it illegal to rent to illegals in San Bernardino County -- some ballot measure and the council says if it makes it on the ballot they won't fight it.

Yes. So we are in a world war , Yet our borders remain wide open. If this story is true the government is not only putting Americans in danger , it is also helping the narco gangs avoid detection. So tell me who is paranoid who is a nativist ? The attacks from the koolaiders no longer have effect. The 06 mantra. " vote for us , we are somewhat less odious than the dims". Nice huh.

"They obviously think they do not work for us. That is clear as crystal."

As with most politicians, maintaining a grip on their phoney-baloney "service" to this country is number one. It just goes to show how wonderful holding political office must really be. If only the security of this country was as important to them as their job security, then something would finally be done!

Exactly! I fought to get Coburn elected and just got my first list to start calling people on behalf of another candidate I am working for to get elected to our State House. Plan on canvassing in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks for the encouragement!
