Hundreds of Palestinian drivers queue at petrol station in Kiriyat Arba, near Hebron, as petrol shortages hit PA; IDF makes exception allowing Palestinian cars to enter Israeli-controlled area
With the Palestinian Authority hit by severe fuel shortages, hundreds of Palestinian drivers, most of them taxi drivers, have been flocking lately to an Israeli petrol station near the Kiriyat Arba settlement bloc.
The crisis was blamed on Israeli firm Dor-Alon, which decided to cut fuel supplies to the PA.
The PA Petrol Authority said Dor-Alon cut fuel supplies, but the claims have not been confirmed. Ynet has learned that senior Palestinian officials turned to international peace brokers to pressure Israel to roll back it decision.
Cars lining up at petrol station
Palestinians are denied access to settlement areas controlled by Israel, but the severity of the crisis prompted the security establishment to break its own regulations.
Business at the station is usually slow as its clientele is limited to Kiriyat Arba settlers, but lately Palestinian cars could be seen lined up from hundreds of meters away.
'There is no choice'
Hussein, 32, of Hebron, told Ynet that he and other drivers have not been given permission to enter the station. He said fuel prices at Israeli stations are costlier than in the PA.
"When there are shortages, there is no choice," he said.
He added that the decision to allow Palestinian drivers access to the station is by no means a goodwill gesture.
"The settlers are not doing us a favor. They are making good money on our account. In my opinion, the station had more customers in a week than a whole year," he said.
Warning! This is a high-volume ping list.
The Egyptians don't want to ;) The Israelis, as ever, are considerably more compassionate. Not that it will ever be acknowledged...
I think that it is a mistake to sell or give them anything. They elected Hammas, they need to learn to live with the concequences, its just like us electing Democrats here.
More to the point, why don't the "palestinians" have a fuel distribution system and fueling stations after 58 years?
Waiting to use the Israeli ones after they've all been exterminated?
They have their own gas stations but no refineries or anything. I believe they have an exclusive agreement with Israel to provide their gasoline that came with the Oslo accords. Also, the Palestinians have not controlled the area for 58 years, more like 20 years, and during that time Arafat stole all their money and Israel controls their ports.
The work accident team could park on the corner with the remote control, to see how many of these vehicles spontaneously explode due to poor wiring jobs.
You don't suppose any of these fully fuelled cars will return as car bombs do you? Naaaaaaah, the Palis wouldn't do that, would they?
What's that old saying about they'll sell us the rope to hang them with?
No doubt the settlers must be kicked out in order to cleanse the land of Jews so the Palestinians can have a nation to run into the ground. Crazy.
Are you seriously that ignorant or are you pretending?
The Palestinian Arabs have never CONTROLLED anything (except violent murderous riots). Not twenty years ago, fifty years ago, or one hundred years ago. Never.
Until Israel bend over at OSLO.
