'Idol' Speculation - Chris Daughtry's Loss Holds a Lesson in American Politics
The New York Post ^ | May 12, 2006 | John Podhoretz

As a seasoned political observer with more than two decades of experience analyzing voting patterns and the like, I would now like to explain to you one of the greatest mysteries in the history of balloting - a mystery so profound that people have sobbed and scratched their heads, gasped and cried out in anger, and insisted they would never again participate in the voting process.

Am I talking about the Florida election in 2000? The 1984 controversy over the victor in the race for Indiana's Eighth Congressional District? The race for president in 1876?

No, I'm talking about the elimination on Wednesday night of rocker Chris Daughtry from the list of contenders for the title of "American Idol."...

How could this happen?...

If you want to understand "Idol," you need to understand American politics. And if you want to understand the workings of American politics, "Idol" isn't a bad introduction to the way political coalitions are formed and elections are won....

You make a rude comment and attempt to justify it, well be my guest. I realize you don't like being called on stupid comments, but it happens.

What other disorders do you find amusing?

The reason they have the voting system set up the way it is revolves around MONEY, of course. Cingular is a major sponsor of the show, and the more votes sent in the form of text messages, the more money Cingular makes from their sponsorship of the show. I think that with a vote-against system, people would pretty much call in and vote against one person, one time. With the current flawed system, people will call dozens of times or text message dozens of times in support of their favorite. So, that's how you end up with Clay losing out to Ruben, Constantine leaving well before his time while Scott Savol and Anthony Putin or whatever-his-name is continued on, and now, the biggest travesty of all, Chris Daughtry not even making the top 3. What a mess.

I think Chris got voted off because his market is limited. He's the rocker and he's only going to get the rocker percentage of votes. As the rest of the contestants got voted out each week, few of thier votes went to Chris. Eventually he ended up in the minority (among American Idol fans).

Really...is that all it does?

At first I thought oh great this is going to be a horrible article, but after reading it. I find that it makes pretty good sense. I actually have heard from many people that if Chris got voted off, they would want to have Elliott win. I was such a McPhee fan until she started "screwing" up the last couple weeks. Taylor to me is so annoying. So I guess right now, I am going to hope Elliott wins. I find it awful that people make fun of him for his looks...bad teeth and looks like a troll. Wife liked him from the beginning. He does have a great voice. At the end of the day, all of them will probably find work. Plus all of them will be touring the U.S. through the summer so all is not lost.

With the exception of pregnancies, my weight has been stuck around 98 pounds for the last twenty years. I'd love to have a shadow of some of McPhee's curves. She has a beautiful figure.

You are not the only one puzzled. I have never watched it. I never watched Survivor.

I never watched it either. Tuesday is my poker night, and Wednesday I spend at church choir practice. My wife watches it though, because we've got a local guy in there (Elliot Yamin). She's also aquired a sudden interest in baseball. We're going to a game tonight because Elliot is singing and throwing out the first pitch.

Chris is from my town and the local press was all over this yesterday. One woman called a local radio show and told how she was so upset she couldn't sleep the night Chris lost. Others are convinced it's a conspiracy.

Chris was supposed to make a visit today and sing at the local elementary school where his kid attends, but that was canceled. The newspaper has a story about it today and said a bunch of kids were crying over it on the school buses yesterday morning.

Good grief.

You are too funny! I loved your post. I gave me such a great laugh.

He's the spitting image of his cousins, but doesn't look anything like his brothers. Or me, for that matter, apart from the hair color and skinny physique.

Given the unbelievable medeocre talent level every time I flip through and see any part of it, I fail completely to understand its appeal. I hear better singing at local Karaoke bars.

She does have a pretty face, and is attractive enough but he is right, she needs to get on a diet and exercise program for that belly pooch.

50 lower leg lifts a day will tighten that up in no time.

I didn't notice the beer belly, but then I'm a woman so I'm likely to notice only a girl's pretty eyes and hair.

My my teenage son is pretty taken with Katt, soooo, it appears she MAY become my daughter-in-law. Since it is almost a sure thing that she won't be much of a traditional housewife, (insert smirk here) the cooking will probably fall in my corner, and I plan to limit her fat intake, thus solving the bootie and mid-drift problem, then she will be perfect.. Case closed.. :)

Didnt realize I was amused by Tourettes. But Taylor's gyrations reminds me of someone who has it. Thanks for being an overly sensitive bore though.

Again, lighten up and quite reading too much into a post. Your little guilt trip isnt going to change my outlook on life. Do you ALWAYS police what people can say or is this a new thing? If you are someone you know suffers from tourettes, well im sorry for that but im not going to change what I say for fear of offending you.

A conservative forum usually doesn't take your type of passive agressive methods very well.

No, but Taylor doesn't have any other symptoms so those comparisons don't match up. Thanks for your question.

The touchy feelies are out in full force this morning.

Just curious as to your experience with Tourette's Syndrome. I studied it a lot (often people do NOT have spastic tendencies as you indicated) so just wondering what your background is.
