'Idol' Speculation - Chris Daughtry's Loss Holds a Lesson in American Politics
The New York Post ^ | May 12, 2006 | John Podhoretz

As a seasoned political observer with more than two decades of experience analyzing voting patterns and the like, I would now like to explain to you one of the greatest mysteries in the history of balloting - a mystery so profound that people have sobbed and scratched their heads, gasped and cried out in anger, and insisted they would never again participate in the voting process.

Am I talking about the Florida election in 2000? The 1984 controversy over the victor in the race for Indiana's Eighth Congressional District? The race for president in 1876?

No, I'm talking about the elimination on Wednesday night of rocker Chris Daughtry from the list of contenders for the title of "American Idol."...

How could this happen?...

If you want to understand "Idol," you need to understand American politics. And if you want to understand the workings of American politics, "Idol" isn't a bad introduction to the way political coalitions are formed and elections are won....

Murdoch owns the Post. Does he also have a financial interest in Chennel 5?

If I'm not mistaken, he owns it. That's why he had so much trouble buying the Post in the 90's.

Anyway, any night 24 or Idol is on, you can count on a long feature about it on the 10 p.m. "news". It's like they're not even pretending to have integrity anymore.

She has a beer belly and a ghetto booty.

She also has a beautiful face and pretty hair. And young people today think that a ghetto booty is a positive trait to have. It's mysterious, but fashions in such things come and go.

Katherine McPhee is cute and she could do well within her element after Idol. I'm not sure of how Elliot will do after Idol but he has a great voice.

Chris was good and he will do just fine after Idol.

'IDOL' OUSTER FUELS OFFER

http://www.nypost.com/entertainment/68415.htm

Excerpt:
May 12, 2006 -- CHRIS Daughtry has been asked to join the multi-platinum rock band, Fuel.

The band made the official offer to the booted "American Idol" contestant on last night's edition of "Extra."

Taylor will win Idol. He has been the front runner from day 1. Taylor makes people want to get up out of their seats and dance. He is very entertaining. Check out DialIidol.com

A few songs from Taylor I like.

And this one has the potential to be a country award winner.

Here's a link...you can watch some of the interviews he's done so far. His first show was a disaster, but it's gotten progressively funnier and edgier. Last night my husband watched it (and he's not a huge Beck fan), but said, "Glenn's got a winner there." Let's hope so.

On the right there's a box that says "Watch"...they have some of the clips from Beck's interviews this week

Enjoy!

Chris has already been offered the job as lead singer for Fuel...he sang their song Hemmorage in an earlier performance. Regardless of what he does after his contractual obligation to AI, he will be a household name in the music world within 5 years IMHO.

I thought only the winner had a contractual obligation to AI.

I don't think she's interested in you, so her "beer belly" probably won't be a issue.

Chris got tossed out because he sang A Little Less Conversation, A Little More Action, which is an anti-female song. Women got angry and refused to vote for him this time!

Um...a stretch to use Chris for a political article.

Well, no matter. I was watching the show but with Chris's departure I'm out. I'll either wait for him in Fuel or elsewhere if he turns down the offer. He's going to be one of the few exceptions that doesn't need the last two slots to be successful.

If I had to choose anyone left I'd pick Elliot, but none of the three excite me.

I don't watch this crappy show because I reject the premise that some amateur singer should/will be addored. The whole concept stinks. Just my opinion...

The final 10 or 12 are obligated to go on tour for the summer and I'm not sure beyond that.

"The band made the official offer to the booted "American Idol" contestant on last night's edition of "Extra.""

I am a "Fuel" fan and Chris would make a great vocalist for the band and even take it to the next level.
Here is a link to Chris D's version of "Hemorrhage"

Chris sung "A Little Less Conversation" very flat. It was not a good performance. His best performance was his version of "I Walk The Line" by Johnny Cash.

"I thought only the winner had a contractual obligation to AI."

The top 10 have a short contractual obligation for a tour.

I know I'm getting old @ 58 but I think McPhee is quite attractive....a woman doesn't have to weigh 98 pounds to have a nice shape in my world :-)
