Nagin and Blanco said in a press conference in front of the whole nation that Bush called and told him to order a mandatory evacuation.

I can't help it if you aren't up to speed.

You used German, not me.

Only a coward fails to stand behind his or her words.

Amnesty.

Now, if we made them apply for the guest worker program in their home country, those who really do want to work would go back across the border at their own expense. We wouldn't have to spend money deporting them. Those who stay, are obviously not here to work. They're here illegally, and don't wish to become legal. Deport them.

I was hoping for a live thread, but it may be better to forget it....we all know what it will turn into

bloods vs. crips ?

I've got a better idea. We should have a pay per view cage match. Think of the money we could raise.

I have voted GOP for 40 years and never voted Democrat but I tell you if they get this one wrong and I find a Democrat or Dogcatcher or Independent, or anyone else qualified to run (sorry for the association, dogcatchers) who will promise to enforce our immigration laws I will vote for them.

BTTT

I have never been so embarassed for America as I was tonight listening to this President's speech that consisted of hawking for protection of illegal aliens (and Mexico) over border protection for the citizens of the United States. Pure crap, as expected. He could have hit a home run, but again he struck out.

Mexico (and Vicente) must be cheering. We should be hiding our faces in shame.

America will wake up when they realize the costs of this insanity.

That middle ground recognizes there are differences between an illegal immigrant who crossed the border recently, and someone who has worked here for many years, and has a home, a family, and an otherwise clean record.

If they're "undocumented," I wonder how we're supposed to know which ones have crossed the border recently, and which ones have worked here for many years.

How are they going to document their work record, if we're going to hold employers to account for the workers they hire? It is against the law to hire someone who is in this country illegally.

I think there are some holes in this comprehensive immigration reform plan.

No reward for illegal behavior. Period. Task now is to make clear to the Senators what Toast looks like. There are some there and more in the House that understand the realities of this. There is still hope but they have to feel the pressure and it can't be please, cause I'll have to vote for you anyway, cause you are still better than the Rats. They need to know they are at risk on this one. And we can really get the RINOs on this one also I think. They need to be made to stand up and tell us how they stand on this one. RINOs can't resist taking the dive. Hagel did it tonight.

Maybe a slice of toast should be sent through the mail to every open borders Senator and Representative! Sounds good to me.

the president who has done more to deal with illegal immigration than any other president in my lifetime

LOL! Is it any coincidence that this president has actually invited more illegal immigration than any other president in history? Is that what you mean by "dealing" with it?

He liked it so much that he wouldn't even close the borders after 9/11/01, despite the "terrorism threat" to America.

"Amnesty. "

Yep. When Jorge says he objects to amnesty, it means he objects to calling it amnesty. Granting legal status to those who have been here illegally is amnesty. Period. Sure, they have to pay a fine and go thru a procedure -- but so did those who took Carter up on his draft dodger amnesty. The difference was Carter wasn't afraid to call an amnesty an amnesty. El Presidente must misunderestimate the intelligence of the American people to think they won't see thru this ruse. We're not that stupid, even if he wants to treat us as if we are.

There are many threads about the speech on FR tonight. Those on FR who want to trash the republic with open borders; and just love illegality if it'll get 'em more foreign invaders lost tonight. Lost big.

In other words, if they break the law long enough, then it's OK to have broken it. Nice try, doesn't fly.

"It sounds to me like something Kennedy snuck in and the lazy Republicans in the Senate weren't aware of the implications until Sessions brought it up."

Could be. We can find out who sponsored it at thomas.loc.gov

A roll call vote on this will be very interesting, and will show who the quislings are.

Since the Nazi Party was the only legal party in Germany in 1939, your distinction is transparently phony.

Not my responsibility if that your assumption came from the European shore.

Are you now saying that your reference to "1939" was NOT in reference to the Nazis, but to the Depression?

OK, I'll grant that it appears so to those who either can't grasp the distinction or like to pretend they can't.
