President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.
Jim

Well you have not been here long enough. I remember when all the old timmers were being called trolls by the incomming newbies who only cared if the republicans were doing it then it must be great crowd. They still do it...LOL We all found republicans much more favorable than democrats. But we put principles and values first. That is how FR began. JR was a democrat himself...So What! It is princples that matter.

Is that folksy expression some sort of rationalization or excuse for why voters would be unhappy with a House that just past a pretty good HR4437?

No, it's just an observation that a low turnout hurts the pubs who don't deserve it as well as the ones who do. Not that hard to connect those dots.

I'm anti-illegal immigration. I'll be supporting in '06 those in the House who voted for HR4437. I guess my mistake is thinking most are like me in this regard.

What about you?

Here is a reason to oppose the amnesty. Do you realize there are hundreds of thousands of highly skilled temporary workers here in America already. Filling for skills shortages and allowing American companies to compete worldwide. The H-1B visa program helps US companies fill jobs, at full prevailing wages for college graduates, which helps them compete abroad while at the same time hurting the competitiveness of foreign companies by sucking away their most talented epople.

However, it looks like, these people, many of whom have been here five years will still be forced out of the country when their 7 years are up while it looks like illegals who have been here over five years will be allowed to stay.

Is this a double standard or what? Any H-1B visa holder pays the taxes any 10 illegals who have amnesty will ever pay. They all speak English already.

Unless H-1B visa holders can stay as well, what the heck is this country doing forcing the brightest people out while keping the least skilled. And what do the H-1B visa holders when they get home. They take all the new skills they learned in America as well as all the contacts they have made in the American business community and they compete against American business.

"This is not the final solution (that is 100% effective) but if we can reduce the presence to 10%, we are millions ahead."

Sorry folks, I certainly intended no racism. I sould have said "best" solution or "most effective".

"Paranoid delusions can be treated medically."

So, you did not (1)actually pay attention to the "immigration demos" or (2)investigate the "organizers" and learn their actual motives, now did you?

This speech is just part of the process of making sausage. If you want to influence that process you have to figure out where the disagreement is. It seems to me that the senate is agruing about who will be eligible to apply to stay and be citizens. Bush says they should have been here a long time and be employed. What is long? Five years? This is what the senate is arguing, I think.

What a waste of time. Live with this corrupt "Two-Party Cartel" if you want. How can we fall so low. End of discussion with this D.C. crowd. Our poor grandchildren. Never will they have a taste of what our four-founders gave us & we pissed it away.

Judging by the note at the top of this thread by the Admins, I'm guessing these proposals aren't going over too well.

Thanks.

Well I have to agree, if he and others like him put as much effort into immigration as other subjects like Natale Holloway, the Duke rape case and others, we probably wouldn't be needing this discussion. Oreilly's fight for Jessica's law is a very worthwhile thing though and he has done a great deal for that cause.

President Bush is a better president than some Americans deserve.

Hey, there's a slogan that'll win friends for the party going into the elections.

Nice but your memory is faulty. The Cole, WTC 1 and the Embassy bombings happened on the Chief Fornicators watch.

I don't know how long the fevered pitch of the posts at FR can continue. How many "MINE THE BORDER, YOU MORON!" posts can really be posted before the mob runs out of gas?

FR has gone insane before. I can think of several instances, and you probably can, too.

We've recovered every time, and I have to believe we will this time, as well.

Had to work, so I missed the proceedings tonight. I heard Mr. Personality a/k/a Little Dick Durbin was to give a Rat response. Did he, and if so, how'd it go over?

Rikers was NEVER used as an immigration pathway.

It was CASTLE GARDEN, which was situated at the lower end of Manhattan, near Battery Park.

The Irish and Germans came here in waves, beginning in the 1840s. There was a second wave, in the late 1870s/early 1880s. The full bore blast, however, came in the first two 1/2 decades of the 20th century, when Ellis Island was opened.

Before you yell at others, you could at least get the facts correct!

Are you, sir, calling anti-Semitism on me for taking a shot at Larry King?

If you want him deported to Israel (hence the question I asked), yes.
