President's Immigration speech - Live thread

Edited on 05/15/2006 4:38:26 PM PDT by Jim Robinson. [history]

I searched but did not see a thread already open for tonights speech. I think this is the most important speech the President will probably make for the remainder of his term.

Mod Note:
This could turn into a whack-a-troll thread. All immigration trolls that would like to participate should post here. It'll be interesting to see if we mods can whack the trolls faster than they can sign up new accounts.

Virtual fence sounds like the dog collars that zap when they cross a certain boundary.

I agree. Its completely disgusting...close the borders!

If the Republicans and or President Bush don't seriously fix this..they will be voted out of office...and it will be a long time before they can get back in.

But I don't think Fox wants us to even secure the border.

I hope he can handle disappointment.

Well, there's a first time for everything.

>>>But the President has chosen political suicide despite warnings, so be it. <<<

Sad, but true. And he could have made a difference.

Does Bush think I am stupid? He wants to secure the borders now? WHY NOW? What happened in

2001
2002
2003
2004
2005
2006 so far

I am sorry but TOO LITTLE and TOO LATE Mr. President.

Don't feed me BS about wanting to secure the borders. AS IF this is a new issue?

Sorry but I doubt anything he can say will make me happy.

I'm hereby posting my choice for tonight's SOTTED ZOT, misguided and uselessly suspended in his own closed environment, for those whiners, grumps, BushBashers, one-trick pony obsessives who come to this thread just to be disruptors and bashers.

And it's for those who are coincidentally free of logic, manners, class, good sense and adherence to the mission statements of this site. among which is THAT WE SUPPORT OUR PRESIDENT. No words are necessary ... just WORM the squirmy malcontents, so we can focus on the details of this speech.

SLIMEY WORM ZOT

NO, my point is that American kids could get good paying jobs picking Tobacco and doing light construction in high school, untill they brought in the guest workers that undercut the prevailing wages.

Good outdoor work, at a decent wage. Sigh, those were the days.

David Frum should look into what happened with illegals back when the economy went sour last time.
My memory was that many became major targets of violence in this country.

In this current climate, a economic downturn will bring disaster to many who are here illegally. I think it would be more humane, compassionate and thoughtful to remove them before things get bad. I don't like what appears to be happening here. The potential for a disaster in this country is very HIGH IMO and that sure isn't what I want.

I'm just curious as to why he chose this path..

He's not a dumb man..but surely he knows his base is very upset over this..

The reason he won't assign more is because this is not a serious attempt to secure the border but a dog and pony show.

I wonder how many will be appeased by this farce?

Gosh, I've ALWAYS watched the President's speeches and national addresses, but I don't think I have the fortitude handy for tonight. I'm afraid I'll hear things about "jobs Americans won't do" or guest-worker plans, and frankly, that will just finally push me over. My support of President Bush goes back to his days as governor here in Texas, and he's been great on many issues, but right now my support of him is basically hanging by a thread, and this little speech looks likely to irretrievably cause it to snap. It's really a sad day for me. It's just sickening, seeing the country being thrown away before my eyes, and a leader I once had faith in, now allied alongside the likes of Ted Kennedy, and in the forefront of the nation's headlong descent into third-worldom.

LOL. I see that Democrats aren't the only cut and run people. Republicans are doing it too.

Well, they don't call Republicans the stupid party for nothing. Democrats depend on it and freepers are happy to deliver.

I fall closer to looking at it in reverse - Iraq is the distraction from his lack of enforcement of our borders....

And yes, the DU-idiots are in favor of anyone taking over our country - but they are currently pretending to be against illegal immigratin to have a point to argue..... and in the specific argument (even if we are sincer about the belief, and they just use it to be against Bush), I agree....Bush is dead-wrong.
