Huckabee 'serious' about presidency
Washington Times ^ | May 17, 2006 | Ralph Z. Hallow

Posted on 05/17/2006 6:14:51 AM PDT by joeu

Mr. Huckabee said he approved of virtually everything in the Monday night speech on immigration by Mr. Bush, including his National Guard and guest-worker initiatives, even though that agreement put Mr. Huckabee at odds, he said, with some fellow conservative Republicans. "I do believe some of it is driven by racism or nativism," he said of the opposition within his party to Mr. Bush's view that illegal aliens should not be deported but rather fined and eventually allowed U.S. citizenship. "It's not amnesty to make people pay for breaking the law," Mr. Huckabee said.

Huckabee is one of those Republicans who "grew" in office, as the liberals used to say. In his case though, he did lose a lot of weight but "grew" in the liberal intangibles.

I actually like Huckabee and think he is a good man. I've heard some really good things about him from someone who has met him andknows him personally.

However, that doesn't mean I've gotten enough info on his politics to give an opinion on if he would be a good presidential candidate or not.

"It's not amnesty to make people pay for breaking the law,"

It IS scamnesty when they pay a fine and jump to the head of the line. One Arkansas weasel gov as Prez is more than enough.

Any minute now, Laura Bush will say, "It's possible. Yes, I think it's possible."

Huckabee doesn't seem to be the sharpest knife in the drawer. He sounds more like Senator Frist. Wishy-washy politico-speak, a.k.a., gobbledygook.

Nativists?

That seems to have become the Team Bush hot-word for negative connotations.

Hey Huckster, it is NOT "racism or nativism" to want to preserve one's own culture from inundation and subjugation by foreign elements!

Buh-bye Mike.

Next, please?

Huckabee just kissed off his chances to get the GOP nomination for President!

The only person that I see as a viable GOP candidate is George Allen!

What? Oh,well. Sorry, Mr. Huckabee, but thank you for playing. Meanwhile, among our other qualified candidates for President: How say you all, Gov.'s Romney, and Allen ?

I could get behind either one of these guys (or both) because I know the Democratic alternative is going to be awful. Be prepared to be flamed about Romney because a lot of folk on this site really despise the guy.

He is going to undercut Allen in Iowa and allow Romney to be the "anti McCain" choice going forward.

I agree. Allen has been firm in this amnesty mess, and he appears to be an authentic conservative. At the moment, I can think of no one better.

I like Huckabee. He has been a good friend to this web site, better than any of the other possible candidates for President. One lesson I've learned in politics is: support your friends.

Nativism is a word used by leftwing ideologues to demean and degrade the idea that citizens' interests should take prioirty over those of criminal aliens.

Last post I saw on Huckabee, he was yucking it up with a hispanic pressure group about how pretty soon hispanic migrants would be the majority in this country. This guy may be a good governor of Arkansas but he has a loose wire somewhere upstairs.

As president, he said, he would have no problem working on common goals with fellow Arkansan Bill Clinton -- or with other Democrats for that matter.

Three more nails into the coffin of the Huckster's presidential (guffaw) bid. Any self respecting conservative FReeper that votes for him cannot feign ignorance of what he has come to embrace. We Arkansans tried warning everyone that we could about Bubba back in 1991-92 and you see what happened when it was ignored. Now we're sounding the alarm again, this time for the Republicans. Will Republicans heed the warning? - OB1

Let's look at it.

A guy embraces, word for word, a speech made by a President with a popularity rating that could only be described as abysmal on a topic that has sent his supporters to the sidelines in droves.

I'm not sure the country is ready for a guy this politically astute. LOL
