FWIW, I've thought you've been very reasonable on the illegals flap. Your own preferred policy is pretty moderate. You discuss at length how the GOP can slam-dunk the fall elections with this issue and offer good advice on why ignoring conservatives is a very risky idea.

You've made many interesting contributions to the forum, not only recently but also giving us some good perspective from the viewpoint of European conservatives, just as MadIvan has done so often. Certainly I haven't always agreed with your take on France and its opposition to our policies and its internal problems but I have learned from your thoughtful posts.

What's needed on this forum is more diversity of conservative opinion, whether we always agree with it or not. Some people seem to think that Bush is like Stalin and we'll all be sent to the gulag if we don't agree with every word he speaks. Well, to me at least, that's unhealthy and un-American. And much of the present strength of conservatives is because we have been the party of ideas. Look at the kind of debate you see over at National Review. That's no police-state propaganda mill, plenty of diversity there and doing quite well.

For the record, I like you, President Bush.

(I am stubborn about my preference for believing that you're REALLY George W. Bush, lurking here in the open, because it makes it more fun.)

And, for the record, Mr. President, if you'll just give the Border Conservatives their Fence, just start building it by executive order in various places (and stop talking about a "virtual fence", which you know means "No fence"), the Party will win in Fall.

Note, please, that once you've WON, you can even slow down building the Fence to a snail's crawl, if you don't really want to build it in the end. But you've got to give the BorderBots something NOW. The Fence is the big enchilada. Promise it. Start building pieces of it. And win in November.
