"A HOUSE DIVIDED" - Pukin's FReeperversary Rant

Posted on 05/17/2006 7:47:58 AM PDT by Pukin Dog

"A house divided against itself cannot stand." – Abraham Lincoln, 1858

It is getting somewhat strange around these parts when not only the President, but yesterday the First Lady was personally attacked by someone claiming to be a ‘Conservative’. Can there be any doubt that there are forces among us looking to drive a wedge between us?

A few weeks ago, this forum’s owner attempted to remind all of us of the big picture, that regardless of any personal animosity towards the President or Republican Party over their adherence to Conservative principles, that they are still a clear choice over the alternative Democrat Party rule. At that time, I assumed that FReeper-sanity had been restored, and that some of the negative rhetoric aimed at those in Washington D.C. would be dialed back.

Free Republic is a political forum with a proud history and vision, responsible for dragging Dan Rather from his post, and providing countless radio-talk shows with their daily talking points. FReepers are unique in their determination and energy towards protecting and defending the goals of our Founding Fathers.

We are also quite a powder keg of emotion and anticipation, expecting our Republican majorities to take advantage of this opportunity to make permanent gains in our Conservative agenda. Some might argue that this opportunity has been squandered, but those persons would be ignorant of history, lacking understanding that change cannot occur overnight in Washington, and that this is the way our Founders designed our Republic.

In frustration, impatience, and ignorance, we have allowed this forum to become a haven for those who do not share our Conservative goals. I do not blame our enemies anymore then I would blame a scorpion for stinging me. If anger and stupidity were one’s nature, I would expect the trolls that infect this forum to be angry and stupid consistently, which also makes them somewhat easy to detect.

The trolls are not the problem, though. The problem is that so many of us are allowing ourselves to be taken in by those who seek only to prevent us from going to the polls in November to keep their stinking hands off our government for another term. There can be no doubt, that no matter how disappointing our current government has been in promoting the Conservative agenda, that the alternative, enabled by our staying home will be MUCH worse.

The way to deal with Republicans who have actively worked against our goals is to defeat them in Primary elections. We do not even have to defeat them all, only enough of them to send the message that we will indeed target them if they work against our agenda. It should be the goal of EVERY conservative to see that Lincoln Chaffee is defeated in November. His seat is one we can afford to lose. Were I a Rhode Island resident, I would vote for the Democrat if only to send a message to Snowe, Hagel, Collins, Graham, and especially that bastard Specter that their primaries just got a lot tougher.

We only need to get one of them, and Chaffee is the one to get. It does not really matter if a Democrat takes his seat; he will be junior and mute as long as we maintain our overall majority in the Senate.

The one thing that bothers me here like nothing else, is the simple disrespect of the President. Am I am Bush-Bot? Damn straight I am. If you want to know why, click on my handle to read Southack’s excellent list of Bush’s accomplishments in office. But if Bush had done almost nothing in office, it would be no excuse for some of the slights and disrespect he has received from some of us on this forum.

Some of the things I have read here this past week match in tone what one can find on our favorite Democrat sewer site. Someone calling himself or herself a FReeper was promoting shooting aliens at the border until they stopped coming. Is that what we are about? Obviously not, and that so-called Conservative has been eliminated from this forum.

I think it is important to remember that you and I have just as much responsibility as George Bush does in changing our culture to better reflect Conservative values. Right now, this very moment, Conservatives have the government they deserve. We put them there. They are not our mommies and daddies sent out to bring home our Conservative bread. That responsibility lies with all of us. These Republicans represent us, they don’t serve us. Our job is to pick the best individual and send him/her to Washington in the hope that their CHARACTER will see them through.

This is why it is such a nutty thing to consider punishing the Republican party, when we should be letting them know that we’ve got their back, but if they cant do the job, we will replace them with ANOTHER Republican, instead of handing the reigns of government to the party of anger, hopelessness and despair. We sometimes like to think that those people we send to Washington are different from us, that they are capable of meeting our every need and desire.

I want every one of you to think about what you would consider to be your perfect mate. Maybe some of you think you have found that person. If you are married and totally in love with another person, that is great. Now I want to ask you to think about the last time that person you love, who is PERFECT for you, completely pissed you off. Remember, this is your perfect mate, your one true love. Do they do everything you want them to do? Obey your every desire? If you answer yes, I am going to put you on my troll list.

Those people in Washington do not even cut your lawn, yet you expect perfection. Get over it.

I am issuing a challenge to every person who considers him or her to be a Conservative; why don’t we all commit to a return to HONOR? Do we honor our Conservative agenda when we comport ourselves in disgraceful ways? Is it an honorable thing to suggest that our President is a moron, as I read here a few days ago? Is it honorable to attack Laura Bush or any other person representing true Conservative values?

Some of you might argue that George Bush is not representing Conservative values to your liking. I would remind you that the first thing Bush said upon taking office, is that he was going to be President of ALL the people, not just some. You know that if you followed Bush from the beginning that he campaigned of the very immigration platform he is defending right now. Did you vote for him? Yeah?

If you have ever had a steak at a Ruth’s Chris restaurant, you know that sometimes they bring that wonderful steak to your table with a sprig of parsley on it. I hate parsley. Hate it. If I were to treat my steak the way some of us want to treat our President, I would have to throw out the steak, due to that nasty parsley that comes with it. I can deal with the parsley to get the steak, and that is what I am asking FReepers to do.

Expecting perfection from any person, group or team is a recipe for disaster. George W. Bush is my president. You can disagree with him, you can blame him for your problems if that is your desire. If you disrespect his office, his service, his risking his life to be with our troops in Iraq, his steadfast desire to bring a new tone to Washington, or if you just like the way he keeps Democrats so pissed off they lose their minds on a regular basis, I ask you to treat him and his wife with respect and cut the personal attacks. If you call him ‘Shrub’ or ‘Jorge’ consider yourself my enemy.

Right now, our real enemy are the Main Stream Media, the Democrat Party, and all who follow and support them. If you want to jump-ugly on someone, why not start with those leaky bastards and give our side a break?

Do it for Pukin.

I knew that you could.

I think the worst flamers are those who come in here to trash the president and the "bushbots" every day, every thread and every post. I see it as trolling. Trolls are people who come into a forum to trash the place. Doesn't matter to me if they think they are high and mighty "true" conservatives or not. A troll is a troll is a troll. I also see what some of our so-called "true" conservatives post on their antifreeper sites. Yeah, well maybe I give some of our people a little leeway. I know what it's like to be on the receiving end of spiteful more patriotic than thou "true" conservatives. Some of the nastiest trolls have already been ejected and I'm sure others will follow. When people get to the point that they hate us, hate FR, and hate what we are trying to accomplish here, maybe they should just leave and join a site where their views are better appreciated. Why hang around to make themselves and everyone else miserable?

There are trolls here who have been freepers since 1998. Whenever there is mischief to be made, they pop up out of their lair and spew venom.

Doesn't matter the year, they're easily recognized. A good dose of insecticide or pesticide ought to help us eliminate them.

I thought moderators were supposed to be impartial and unbiased? Your post in support of this rant clearly crosses the line. It should be clear to all now why so many anti-illegal, anti-open border FReepers have been banned or suspended.

Because I see our country's first and last line of defense is control of our border, that puts me and others who think like me on the other side of the fence.

Those who want open borders, and cheap labor, my culture wiped out, my father(God rest his soul) who served in WWII and the Korean Conflict to protect this country which now is being handed over by our so-called conservative republicans who invision a new world order, and we're supposed to keep our mouths shut and take it. Afterall, they are our party.

Allow me to toot my fathers horn for him...earned An American Theater Campaign Medal; Asiatic-Pacific Campaign; Two Bronze Stars; Philippine Liberation Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal; Meditorious Unit Award; World War II Victory Medal. I'm glad he doesn't have to witness the sell-out of our country, the country he fought for...twice.

Moderator, when you show open support for that rant, you dishonor what my dad fought for... The United States of America. Not the United States of Republicans.

Country over party!

"You're full of useless and inane hypothesis that don't wash.
You're a defeatist "teach the GOP a lesson" poster.
You're going against the purpose of FR, which is to defeat democrats and never give them control of Congress or the White House.
I am NOT surprised you are an '04 sign-on with no state flag."

I am a very intelligent man with an interesting vantage point who is usually dead right in my predictions. I was wrong about Janine Pirro's chances of being elected, it is true, but Jeanine surprised me with her dismal first public performance. Other than that, I'm a place you might want to look if you want to know what is probably going to happen before other folks report it.

I do not want to see the GOP defeated any more than General Longstreet wanted to the see the Army of Northern Virginia defeated at Gettysburg, but I see the facts as they are, and I write based upon what is, and not what I wish it to be. President Bush and the Republican leadership who will not yield on a border fence have inflicted a defeat on the GOP which will be reflected by the poll results in November. It's not me moving the polls. When that happens, it is my hope and expectation that the Republican party will come out the other end with a clearer view, and do what it did with the 1994 Contract With America, and thence onward to victory.

I am not going against the purpose of FreeRepublic.
You can't defeat Democrats if you alienate your base, and you cannot keep your base if you do things like Bush 41 did when he betrayed tax-hawks on "Read my lips, no new taxes", or what Bush 43 did Monday night, by refusing to give Border Conservatives their closed border. To not have Democrats win, Republican leaders need to hear the message, loud and clear, and adjust to it. FreeRepublic lets them do that, if they read, listen and think.
If they don't, it's not the telling them what they need to do that loses office for Republicans, it's Republican officeholders making bad decisions.

Anyway, it is possible that Mr. Robinson agrees with your assessment of the purpose of his website, and agrees that I am going against the purpose of it. Perhaps you should contact him and ask that I be prohibited from posting here.
I seriously doubt he will take you up on that, and expect he will probably be annoyed with you for having bothered him about what amounts to your anger and disagreement with me. I am a generally respectful and thoughtful poster, who does not get out of hand and rant and rave. I say some unpleasant things sometimes, like any good officer who can foresee the catastrophe that his commander his leading his unit into.

I signed up in 2004. What of it? That's when I discovered the site. State flags? I'm not all that young, and not very technically savvy with the Internet and really have no idea what you are talking about. Are we supposed to put state flags somewhere? Where? I don't know what flag I would put up anyway. I happen to live in Connecticut, for the time being. I've lived in New York, Maryland, Florida, Michigan Texas, California, the Ile de France and Anjou, and lived out at in the middle of the ocearn for longer than I lived in any of those other places except Michigan, so I don't know what flag I'd put up there if I did put one up.

Anyway, it's always a pleasure speaking with you.
If you don't appreciate what I have to say - and clearly you don't - it's probably best not to bother reading it.
I do tend to go on and on, and there's no point getting yourself worked up over some anonymous poster. I'm certainly not going to go away just because you tell me to. That's Mr. Robinson's province. He hasn't asked me to leave. So I'm staying.

I still have a hard time believing that people get paid to post at FreeRepublic.

So do I, but then, I have a hard time believing that one of our posters here is paid to run campaigns.

I was a witness to it. The conversion was stunning given that PD had been fighting for some time with those opposed to illegal immigration. He'd even admitted to hiring illegal aliens and stated that he'd do it again. But he saw the ugliness of the marxist-organized marches of illegal aliens in our streets, he heard the words of the march organizers and the leaders of their movement, and he had an epiphany.

Once again I applaud him for his change of heart. I have been dealing with the immigration issue for many years, with being married to a Russian lady, and so I understand the issue more than most. We applied to bring my stepdaughter here in 2002, and she is in the First Family Priority as the daughter of a citizen. It will take 8 to 10 years for her to arrive here. In the interim she is not even allowed to visit, and that due to American laws, not Russian. If we were the only ones affected I would remain silent, but the horrible truth is for those wanting to immigrate here legally it will take 8 to 25 years. If illegal aliens are given a path to citizenship the system will be so backlogged family relatives of anyone except Mexicans will never be able to come here.

Ohio, don't bother responding to this one. That's just flat-out a nonsensical post from a previously shy person who is suddenly quite active.

"Yesterday I got a mailer from Frist asking for money for the GOP Senatorial campaign. I returned it with a note that I have given up on the Senate but will do what I can to keep the House in Republican hands. My own Congressional district is solid Republican; so I will look elsewhere for some endangered conservative Republican House member and send some money."

This situation is getting very serious when we have fellow Freepers who think this way.

We were infiltrated in '04 and that is a fact.

I swear that almost every post you've made in this thread has been some conspiracy about infiltrators hiding on FR trying to divide and conquer us with their words. Give it a rest and come back to Earth. There may be a lot of FReepers here that you disagree with, or who are angry about one thing or another, or who may even be critical of the President or other Republicans who aren't quite hitting the mark for conservatives. That doesn't mean that they're trolls or infiltrators or that there's some big conspiracy focused on Free Republic to get us to vote Democrat. Let's stick to rational debate and ditch the conspiracy stuff.

Posters here who advocate GOP defeat are trolls or third party defeatists.

Conservatives criticizing Bush, even harshly, are not advocating GOP defeat. It's also not advocating defeat to point out that a lot of average conservative Joes wont' care that much about the 06 elections, thanks to the actions our President and the Congress. However, that doesn't stop some here from painting us all with a broad brush of trolls or "third party defeatists". There's been a lot of false accusations going around.
