Women Run Anti-War Ads in Iraq

Wednesday 17 May 2006

Venice, California - May 15 - CODEPINK: Women for Peace took out full-page ads in 8 Iraqi newspapers today calling on Americans and Iraqi to come together to end the occupation of Iraq. The newspapers are As-sabah Al-Jadid, At-Taakhi, Al-Manar, Al-Haqaeq, Al-Iraq Al-Yaom, As-Syadah, Al-Adalah and Ash-Shahed. They are printed on line at:

http://www.newsabah.com/20060515/pdf/p12.pdf
http://www.taakhinews.org/pdf/4755/p8.pdf.

Two major newspapers, Azzaman and the U.S.-supported As-Sabah, refused to run the ad.

The ad calls on Americans and Iraqis to work together to stop the bloodshed and bring the US troops home. "We have seen in poll after poll that the majority of Americans and Iraqis want the US troops to return home. Even the majority of US troops (72%) think they should return by the end of this year. It is time for the politicians in both countries to listen to us, the people," the ad says. The ad is linked to a website, in Arabic, where Iraqis can sign a petition and communicate directly with Americans, either by internet or through the mail. To view the website, go to www.esteklal.org.

"We are thrilled by the feedback we are getting," says Medea Benjamin, cofounder of CODEPINK, a women's peace group that sponsored the ads. "The newspapers are reporting that they are swamped with calls from readers saying that this ad gives them hope and makes them realize there are Americans who support their desires to be free from foreign occupation. We must find ways to work together to end the bloodshed."

The ads are paid for by hundreds of CODEPINK supporters from around the country, including Annie Nelson, wife of renowned singer/songwriter Willie Nelson. "I have been heartbroken by all the death and destruction from this war in Iraq, and I am delighted to have a way to extend my hand in friendship to Iraqi mothers and their families," says Mrs. Nelson.

The ads follow a weekend 24-hour peace vigil at the White House organized by CODEPINK to commemorate Mothers Day, May 14. The vigil included peace mom Cindy Sheehan, actress Susan Sarandon, comedian Dick Gregory, doctor/clown Patch Adams, and women from Iraq and Iran. It featured a concert, strategy workshops on grassroots organizing and national campaigns, an interfaith gathering, and writing and reading letters to Laura Bush urging her to pressure her husband to end the war.

Remember that Code Pink sent $600,000 to the insurgents in aid to Fallujah. And like that support for terrorists, these ads were paid for with money Cindy Sheehan helped to raise.

Remember, too, that Code Pink, Mother Sheehan's operation and even Truthout are all tax-payer supported 501c3 “charities.”

We used to call this treason.

"This is an enemy without conscience -- and they cannot be appeased. If we were not fighting and destroying this enemy in Iraq, they would not be idle. They would be plotting and killing Americans across the world and within our own borders. By fighting these terrorists in Iraq, Americans in uniform are defeating a direct threat to the American people. Against this adversary, there is only one effective response: We will never back down. We will never give in. And we will never accept anything less than complete victory.

I really wonder what it would take these days to be charged with treason. The threshold used to be WAY lower.

US Constitution, Article III, Section 3.
Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court.

The Congress shall have Power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

"Adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort." I'd probably want Henry Mark Holzer's opinion on this, but it looks to me like Susan Benjamin and her gang of screechers hit this one out of the park. Grand Slam Treason.

As far as Willie Nelson's wife goes... well, with him writing gay cowboy songs, she probably just snapped. So in her case, the execution will be a mercy.

Could we stay on topic here?

I'm not tickled to death over everything the president has done. But it pales in comparison with paying to give aid and comfort to the enemy in a real live war with bullets and bombs and all that. And I certainly don't see anything wrong with calling Foxy before his speech. If the speech were about a better plan than it was, that would have been good policy and good diplomacy.

But as I say, this here thread is about how a bunch of despicable people are reacting to the WOT. I'd kind of like to stick with that here. You wanna go tangle on some immigration thread, okay.

I know you're upset. Play nice anyway.

Your words in the thread The ad calls on Americans and Iraqis to work together to stop the bloodshed ..." does not properly described the ad.

The ad doesn't say anything about cooperation, just a one sided pull out, lies, and give our money to the Iraqi's, which would become a sink hole if we pull out before the Mission is completed.

Code Pink and the other 501c3's need to be investigated about their political affiliation. The American Gold Star Mothers and other patriotic groups play by the rules, they have to also.

Several (6) of us were in front of the White House this past Mother's Day harassing Code Pink. That's the least we could do. But if more had come out maybe we would have received some air time to show the U.S. population that Code Pink is not the only game in town. (A Report is being written by another but not sure when it will be out).
