The colour of gloom [Islamic Garb]
Jordan Times ^ | 5-23-06

Posted on 05/23/2006 4:41:56 PM PDT by SJackson

Iran has laws in the pipeline that promise to make life in the country even more difficult. One such piece of legislation aims to impose a “standard Islamic garment” on all Iranians, meaning that Iranians will no longer be able to dress as they wish.

There is an even more difficult to understand addition to the restriction: The colours of the projected “uniforms” are limited to sombre hues. As if life were so rosy for them!

This new regimentation in the lifestyle of Iranians is supposed to apply even to children as young as four! It doesn’t make for a very mind-stimulating environment, nor for desire to stand out even if, at this age, only through the choice of colour for the garb.

The other piece of legislation aims to make it compulsory for non-Muslims in Iran to wear insignias on their clothing that identify them as Christians, Jews or followers of whatever other religion. The Christian would wear a red badge, while the Jews would have to wear a yellow sign.

Obviously these projected laws are causing a worldwide uproar even before they pass through the legislative process and become enacted. They would undoubtedly take Iran back to the dark ages and do nothing to help the image of Islam, nowadays under assault.

Islam is an enlightened religion that brought progress to Muslims everywhere. Why would a regime that claims to strictly follow the tenets of this religion want to portray it in such a negative light?

At the rate things are going, Iranians will have not only their mind and thoughts controlled, but also what they wear and eat regulated.

It is an affront to the pious that all these regressive and repressive steps are purportedly being taken in the name of Islam.

The Iranian regime must be aware that it is bound by international norms to respect the rights of the people in the country. And it is simply unacceptable to discriminate between people on the basis of religion.

Marking Christians and Jews by having them wear badges is a clear act of discrimination bearing the ominous hue of the dark days of World War II. Neither Islam nor international standards tolerate this kind of behaviour.

The Iranian government under Prime Minister Mahmoud Ahmadinejad needs to reflect more before it puts into effect these draconian laws, especially when they run counter to Islam.

Yes, I know there are serious questions about the accuracy of these week old reports. Apparently the concerns haven't reached Jordan.

Any bets on whether this story gets any play in the Western press? That would inflame negative sentiment against another culture. We unrefined goons in flyover country need to be protected from such information, you see.

"Islam is an enlightened religion that brought progress to Muslims everywhere."

Yeah, right! Progress from the 7th century to the 10th.
What a jolly bunch of a$$holes.

I believe that part is what the Leftists find so attractive.

Prove it. I've been looking at Islam since 9-11, and I still have yet to learn one thing about it that isn't completely disgusting.

The proof is in the pudding, and judging by the horrific state of Muslim society everywhere it exists in the world, I would like this author to provide one single, solitary example of anyplace on the planet where Islam has brought progress to anyone anywhere.

Gee, and I thought this story had been debunked. Not.

They got a Jewish member of the Iranian Parliament to say it wasn't so, but in a way that sounded slightly Clintonesque. Then again, the position of a Jew in Iran seems less secure than in Germany in the 1930's

Islam is an enlightened religion that brought progress to Muslims everywhere.

Huh??!? Do they mean enlightenment like the slaughter of innocent lives on every continent; or as in the poverty and ignorance in which the vast majority of Muslim's live in. Asian Muslums are poor, and uneducated; Africa is poor and uneducated, the Middle East Muslum countries lead the world in famine, slaughter and illiteracy.

Meanwhile, those darn Christians have space, nuclear, medicine, computer, semi-conductor, physics, heart transplant, pharmacy, genetics, planes, trains and automobiles .... the list is endless.

In all seriousness, I ask: "What does Islam contribute to the good of humanity?"

"What does Islam contribute to the good of humanity?"

The best example of what happens if a cult gets going IMO.

Obviously these projected laws are causing a worldwide uproar....

...well.... not with me.

I think it is a really good idea. As a matter of fact, I think it ought to be imposed by decree by the mullas. I know the iranian people would be more than happy to comply....after all, it is soothing to the nerves when you don't have to be a slave to the latest fashions.

Islam is an enlightened religion that brought progress to Muslims everywhere.

Yeah, name one First world country where Islam reigns supreme? I won't hold my breath while they think about it.

Marking Christians and Jews by having them wear badges is a clear act of discrimination bearing the ominous hue of the dark days of World War II. Neither Islam nor international standards tolerate this kind of behaviour.

I have one word for you: Dhimmi. Where do you think the Nazi's got the idea for those pretty little yellow badges, the Sears-Roebuck catalog?!

"The vile and ignorant dhimmis (non-Muslims in an Islamic country) must be humiliated, belittled and rendered abominable and able to be distinguished by their appearance." For example, "different colored shoes, one white the other black"; for males badges such as an "ape for a Jew and a pig for a Christian: for women yellow veils." The distinctive dress shows the Muslim that the dhimmi is to be treated as an inferior - not to stand up for her or shake his hand, not to give them Muslim charity. He is to expect respect and deference from the dhimmi who shall not join a group of Muslims or raise his voice in their presence. The non-Muslim is to stand aside if the pathway is narrow. It is haram (unlawful) for him to slaughter animals; reserved for him is the cleaning of lavatories and sewers, and carrying away rubbish and refuse. His house should be painted a dull color and be no larger than that of a Muslim neighbor. - from various medieval Muslim documents, compiled in "The Dhimmi", by Bat Ye'or

He obviously hasn't picked up his Koran lately and read it, either.

Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold forbidden that which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued. (Qur’an 9:29)
