TREASURY NOMINEE PAULSON IS A MAJOR REPUBLICAN DONOR

Goldman Sachs CEO Hank Paulson has contributed generously to Republicans--more than outgoing secretary John Snow. Paulson's wife and employees favor Democrats, however.

Well, I guess that is better than a major Democrat donor.

The Center found that Paulson and his wife, Wendy, have contributed more than $426,000 since 1989 to federal candidates, party committees and political action committees controlled by members of Congress. Most of the money—$370,000—has gone to Republicans, almost all of it from the Treasury nominee himself. His wife has given three-quarters of her share to Democrats.

I think his contributions took a Miers-like path of steady Democrat donations and one day out of the blue the donations started going to only Republicans.

Around the time he made some important Republican friends, I suspect.

Wonder how Paulson's handouts to the Republicans stack up against Clinton's Goldman Sachs Treasury appointee (who was confirmed) - Robert Rubin?

Of course the press conveniently forgets that Rubin was from Goldman Sachs just like Paulson.

Dirty Money, Dirty Politics and Bishop Estate

Stealing the Legacy of a Hawaiian Princess

. . . . 1992 - Bishop Estate trustees invest $250 million of the trust's money in Goldman Sachs.

1992 - Bishop Estate invests $31 million in Mid Ocean Reinsurance Co. with partners J.P. Morgan & Co, Marsh & McLennan Co. and Texas deal-maker Richard Rainwater. While a director of Mid Ocean, estate trustee Henry Peters received substantial director's fees and received options to acquire 6,000 shares of Mid Ocean Stock.

1993 - Bishop Estate, The MacArthur Foundation, and Duke University Endowment Fund back the formation of a Boston merchant bank called Orion Capital Partners LP.

1993 - Robert Rubin, worth an estimated $100 million at the time, resigns Goldman Sachs to join the Clinton administration. Rubin makes a phone call to Bishop Estate and the estate "insures" Rubin's stake in Goldman Sachs for $100,000 a year -- a real "sweetheart deal" for poor Rubin?

1994 - Bishop Estate invests another $250 million in Goldman Sachs.

"Anybody know why that was being said ..??"

He gave to socialists? His wife is a greenie? They thought his name was Goldman?

Oddly my rather diversified portfolio had a significant increase and I don't play the short market.

Investors Daily noted that Paulson chaired the "respected" Nature Conservancy, but both Goldman Sach and Nature Conservancy are in favor on mandatory GHG controls (come to think of it, so was O'Neil). Paulson's appointment is opposed by a coalition of free market-based policy groups, including the National Legal and Policy Center, the Free Enterprise Action Fund, Capital Research Center, National Center for Public Policy Research, and Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise. http://www.impactwire.com/article.asp?id=2486

I also note that the book on global warming sponsored by the British government (foreword by Blair) called "Avoiding Dangerous Climate Change" (http://www.edie.net/news/news_story.asp?id=11021) was just launched in the US on May 9 at JP MorganChase (Exxon is a major shareholder); this book is designed to scare up political support in the US and elsewhere for binding measures more significant than Kyoto: http://www.defra.gov.uk/news/2006/060509e.htm.

Just what is going on these days? Is the Bush administration turning Green?

"Paulson chaired the "respected" Nature Conservancy, but both Goldman Sach and Nature Conservancy are in favor on mandatory GHG controls."

Yeah, and Greenspan married that CNN socialist greenie reporter Andrea Mitchell (not to be confused with his first wife Joan Mitchell).

Methinks we are in for it at least until the end of the year. Cash is king (and good out of the way short term munies) until the end of the year.
