Lonegan Endorses John Ginty for Senate [US Senate Race, NJ -- TODAY IS PRIMARY DAY!]

(Bogota - June 1,2006) - Steve Lonegan, Mayor of Bogota and former candidate for Governor of New Jersey, has endorsed John Ginty for U.S. Senate in advance of the June 6th Republican primary.

"For me it was a no-brainer. John Ginty is a conservative Republican and he’s defending the principles articulated by Ronald Reagan, who won New Jersey's electoral votes in both 1980 and 1984," Lonegan said.

During the 2005 New Jersey Republican Gubernatorial Primary campaign, Lonegan was established as a preeminent voice of conservatives in New Jersey. Lonegan said, "Republicans must stand for the values held dear by the party's base. John is a true fiscal conservative and he’s unwavering in his defense of the Culture of Life."

Lonegan said, "I have known John for 10 years and I know he can be trusted to vote in the Senate with integrity."

Ginty's campaign has picked up a lot of steam over the past week. I've seen announcements for it pop up all over the place.

I voted for Ginty today in Upper Montclair. I also wrote in Bret Schundler for Rep, just because I'm tired of NJ's RINO cartel. The bored workers told me I was the ONLY voter to show, so you Ginty folks should get out and get motivated. With low turnout, our votes will really count.

We can strangle this Damian-esque Kean Devil Baby in the cradle today, which by the way is 6-6-06.

NJ Freeper Conservatives, get out the vote!

Excellent suggestion. As the GOP isn't running anyone for the US House in my district, I'll write in Schundler as well.

Q&A with John Ginty:

Why are you running?

To promote conservative values and conservative solutions in this primary, and to give conservative voters and all Republican primary voters a choice. Until I entered the race, the primary was essentially going to be a coronation, which doesn't make much sense in a state of more than 8 million people. I also believe I would do a better job as the Republican candidate next fall.

What's your top priority if elected?

To fight for reductions in the size of the federal government and for specific reductions in federal spending, and to support the federal budget that's been proposed by the House Republican Study Committee, which is a group of 100 conservative House members. It's the only budget that's been put forward for 2007 that in any way contributes to the eventual balancing of the federal budget.

How would you be a strong advocate for New Jersey?

New Jersey taxpayers have historically received fewer tax dollars back from Washington than they send to Washington. That problem will not be fixed unless the size of the federal government and the scope of the federal government are reduced. As long as federal spending is increasing at a runaway rate, New Jersey taxpayers will continue to foot a large portion of that bill -- disproportionate to the size of the population.

Why are you the better candidate in this primary?

I am offering specifics to Republican voters – including specific wasteful programs to be eliminated. I am also the candidate who is offering meaningful and realistic solutions to the energy problem, which to most people around here translates into gasoline prices. I endorse, along with most Republicans in Congress, drilling in ANWR [Arctic National Wildlife Refuge], for example. [My opponent Tom] Kean is not in favor of drilling in ANWR. I've also endorsed removing the tariff on imported ethanol, which is 54 cents a gallon.

Do you have a role model in the U.S. Senate? Who?

My role model right now would be Tom Coburn from Oklahoma, because he is not a professional politician. He was in Congress before but he term-limited himself and he left. He's a practicing physician and continues to practice his profession, and fought to do so even though some thought that was not appropriate. But the main reason he is my role model is that he is the one senator who is fighting runaway spending.

What do you think of the war in Iraq?

I would have voted in favor of the war had I been in the U.S. Senate at the time. My position as a candidate for the Senate in 2006 is that I am supportive of the Bush administration and the military effort to win this conflict. To lose Iraq would set off a chain reaction of violence and unpredictability in that region and perhaps other places that would be bad for America's allies and our national security.

I was going to write your name in. Or Claud's. :) No, seriously, I didn't think about Bret Schundler. Will do.

Yep. My Rep is Rob Andrews. I think he's a pro-life Dem, which may explain why he has no GOP opposition. I haven't lived in the district long so I don't know much about him, to be honest.

Turn out is expected to be very light, so with God's help, we might just take this thing!

Keep spreading the word!

Sweet. Well done.

I couldn't get to the polls this morning--they changed my polling place, and I was too busy putting out Ginty signs to go looking for the new place.

I'll hit the polls right after work.

Bump!

The talk radio station down here in our area (990 AM) mentioned Ginty as "Kean's conservative challenger" in the news update at the top of the hour this morning. They also said the race is expected to be "close" (!)

Hope springs eternal!
