Ann Coulter Banned in New Jersey?

Two New Jersey Democrats are pushing to have Ann Coulter's new book "Godless: The Church of Liberalism," banned from all bookstores in their state because she criticized four 9/11 widows known as "the Jersey Girls."

In a joint press release issued Friday, New Jersey Assemblywomen Joan Quigley and Linda Stender say they want New Jersey retailers to "ban the sale of [Coulter's] book throughout the state."

"Ann Coulter's criticism of 9-11 widows, whose only desire since the attacks have been to repair their shattered lives and protect other families from the horrors they have experienced, is motivated purely by petty greed and hate," the two Democrats complained.

"Coulter's vicious characterizations and remarks are motivated by greed and her desire to sell books . . . She is a leech trying to turn a profit off perverting the suffering of others."

Quigley and Stender conclude:

"No one in New Jersey should buy this book and allow Ann Coulter to profit from her hate-mongering. We are asking New Jersey retailers statewide to stand with us and express their outrage by refusing to carry or sell copies of Coulter's book. Her hate-filled attacks on our 9-11 widows has no place on New Jersey bookshelves."

Excellent point! Ann's publicists should quickly announce that "The Government wants to ban Ann Coulter's book."

Now there's an intelligent argument. Do you even understand what a "slippery slope argument" is? Apparently not, since neither Enterprise or I made one.

Now there's an intelligent response. You didn't make a slippery slope argument because you didn't make one.

LOL!

BTW, I don't think you understand the 1st amendment.

There is a respectful way to ask that question. Ask nicely and I might.

Labeling something as "hate speech" or a "hate crime" they feel trumps freedom of speech.

As long as the left gets to call what is and isn't "hate speech". These ladies were just as hateful in their speech. Personally, I would think that the people of New Jersey would want their elected officials to be above this type of verbal cat fighting.

The only thing clear here is that your arguments went up in smoke.

Give it time. Darwin Central will try ... to get her banned from FR too.

You can "feel" them squirming until they can figure out a way to support the first half of the book while burning the second, can't ya?

And that's when we get the flying monkeys.

Ms. Coulter's comments are not made more tasteful by comparing them to Mr. Churchill's "little Eichmanns" comment. Both are reprehensible - but both are protected political speech. Significantly, however, Mr. Churchill's and Ms. Coulter's comments drove more people away than they convinced.

Once again you prove her point! The Jersey Girls can say anything they want and no one can challenge them because of their victim status.

The only thing clear here is that your arguments went up in smoke.

Government officials have every right of free speech to ask private citizens to boycott things.

Private citizens have every right to vote out politicians who advocate bad boycotts.

It couldn't be more clear than that. (But not to you).

"Government officials have every right of free speech to ask private citizens to boycott things."

Government officials also have the power to punish private citizens who don't do what they are "asked." It couldn't be more clear than that. (But not to you).

Jeff - PERFECT! Needs to be said one more time.....
"If you read carefully what Coulter is saying, she uses that example as this very type of thing, the liberals trotting out emotionally charged and distraught individuals to procaim their perverted version of events in the hopes that no on will assail their statements becuase of their "emotional" situation".

Liberals are a snotty, elitist bunch - so long as it's one of "them"...they can say anything they like - even if they don't get accolades for it....NO ONE would dare criticize it.

Ann Coulter shines the light of truth on their little ploys, and it scares the hell out of them. Liberals remind me of my grandchilden who think if their cover their own eyes, no one else can see them. That's their logic behind banning books.

A lot of people have slammed the Jersey Girls...but Ann has routinely hit many raw nerves on the left, and they think they have her over a barrel with this...but they are, as usual, wrong.

Colleges are turning out stupider and stupider people - well indoctrinated leftists - but stupid people all. Common sense seems to have gone away forever.

So, let them ban the book in Jersey...blue states won't read it anyway....and....it's great publicity for Ann.
