This is a call to anyone that would like to ee John Conyers bounced from office this November. Chad Miles, a veteran with experience in Desert Strom (He was with the 82nd Airborne, and also spent time in Army Intelligence) has filed to run against Conyers in the November election. Chad has very conservative views, and I think that, though it may look like an impossibility to most - including Mr. Conyers - Chad could win this thing. Most Dems that I know in the Downriver area are looking for ANYONE to vote for beside Conyers (This area was redistricted to Conyers by the Republican lead House in Michigan after 2000). I think if we could get the vote out in big numbers Downriver, and steal 25% - 35% of the Detroit vote, this is doable. Anyone interested in helping can go to his website: http://www.chadmilesforcongress.com By the way, Chad has made the "Daily Kos" http://www.dailykos.com/story/2006/5/17/131942/811 ; though I think they are using this mainly as a cry for money to those supporting Conyers, they may be right in fearing that Chad could become formidable with the right backing. If you wonder what you can do, or are unsure that you have the time to make a commitment, we are looking for people to do things as simple as going to Conyers' blog, and refuting what he is trying to spin there. Feel free to contact me here, or at chris@jerichocomputers.com We're looking for any ideas people have on strategy, so please feel free to share. Thanks, Chris
Thanks Jet Jaguar...I am in the middle of a few things here and forgot to use HTML...
My pleasure.
Michigan s000000 needs to get rid of Conyers, the loser...
I agree, and I think if he was EVER vulnerable, this is the year!
Anyone who's seen or heard Conyers knows he belongs in a nursing home instead of Congress.
OUR Vets actually have a chance, unlike Dean's 30 Carpetbaggers, that can't even get out of the DEm primaries alive......
Wizzing on the local Party is never a smart idea for the Nationals.....
Yes, but the good folks of Detroit </sarcasm> keep putting him back in office...kind of like mayor Young back in the day...but now he has to contend with the new area that the Republican Congress here in Michigan handed him...it makes beating him at least plausible...
I know we talk about the horror of waking up to "Speaker Pelosi"....
...but consider, for a moment, Chairman John Conyers of the House Committee on the Judiciary.
That's right, the guy who introduced articles of impeachment against Nixon for the conduct of the VietNam war (during the Watergate hearings), who then fought tooth-and-nail against Clinton's impeachement (especially against introducing any rape allegations), will be the CHAIR.
I'm sure we can (and should) document his other follies, but just consider him in a position to impeach Bush....
I agree; it's scary to have those two words together - Chairman Conyers. He needs to be sent back to Michigan in forced retirement...
No way man, there are enough stupids in his district stil that unless he is caught having sex with a dog he'll get reelected.
My state, Arizona, is B-buh-buh---blessed with Senator McCain. Got any advice????
Sorry, I am not willing to cede the congressional seat to Conyers just because he's always had it, or because I am afraid beating him isn't possible...thanks for your input though...

from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Conyers
- one of the 13 founding members of the Congressional Black Caucus (considered the Dean of that group).
- According to the National Journal, Conyers has been considered, with Pete Stark, to be one of the most liberal members of Congress for many years.
- He appeared in Michael Moore's documentary Fahrenheit 9/11 discussing the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 attacks, stating that members of Congress "don't read most of the bills".
- Conyers frequently posts at Daily Kos and Democratic Underground. Since May 2005 he's been a contributing blogger at The Huffington Post and his own blog.
- Conyers and 88 other members of Congress wrote an open letter to the White House inquiring about a leaked memo which revealed an apparent secret agreement between the United States and the United Kingdom to attack Iraq in 2002.
- Conyers released What Went Wrong In Ohio: The Conyers Report On The 2004 Presidential Election, which discusses the voting irregularities in the state of Ohio during the 2004 Presidential Election.
- Conyers released The Constitution in Crisis: The Downing Street Minutes and Deception, Manipulation, Torture, Retributions and Cover-ups in the Iraq War, an edited collection of information intending to serve as evidence that the Bush Administration altered intelligence to justify the invasion of Iraq.
- three former aides who worked for Conyers were allegedly used as babysitters, valets, and workers on the political campaigns of other politicians (including that of his wife who was running for Detroit city council) instead of working in his offices for governmental purposes.
Hey, I know it's a tall order, but sometimes the right person wins - even if they are an underdog. All I'm looking for are people who would like to work toward reclaiming some of these seats...
