Do try to remember that Gates only got the contract to provide the OS for the IBM PC because Gary Kildall was out flying his plane. Well, that and a bit of fraud on Gates' part.

Well, that's baloney, but it's representative of the rest of your post.

I'm amazed at the number of FReepers who trash Gates. So what if he's a good marketeer? That's what builds business.

Nothing happens until somebody sells something.

Worse....he thinks he can save the world by throwing his money at problems.

***Worse yet...Gates joined the One World Government ideologistic elites.

(Jay Severen calls Bill Gates a "racist" because Gate's scholarship program excludes all other races except blacks.)

The uninformed speak up.....

That they do....and the self-important continue to impress only themselves.

Ah yes. Attacking the messenger is a time honored tactic when the message is unassailable.

I'm amazed at the number of FReepers who trash Gates.

Why? He's a lefty that sends tons of money to the UN for, ahem , population control. He's a thief and a liar. He deserves to be trashed.

So what if he's a good marketeer? That's what builds business.

Being a good marketeer isn't the problem. The problem is that he's built an empire on stealing other people's work.

Alfonse Capone built a big business too but I don't see any one around here lionizing him.

Which scholarship program are you talking about? His Gates Cambridge Scholarship is open to anyone.

Obviously, greed is driving his generosity. Because if he kept the stock, he would pay no income taxes and still have the billions in net worth. If he sold the stock and kept the money, he would have xx billion - 20% taxes (or maybe a higher rate because of the AMT). If he gives away the money, he had $0 of it left. Thus, he's giving it away out of greed.

Much as I dislike Windows, he is doing some good work with his money.

Yeah, sorta. If you look into how the Gates foundation and the TRIPS treaty seem to mesh, it makes you wonder. Shrug. I know a couple mill at me would be "great" work ;).

So Vista is going to be the disaster most suspect.

You're not impressed?

You're also not very well informed, or worth considering....

In all fairness.....few project directors say bad things about their benefactors.

Point well taken. I also base my feeling on things I have read or heard, taken with many grains of salt of course. From my viewpoint, I see a vast differenece between Gates and other super-wealthy people, movie "stars" in particular. He just comes off as being a lot more down to earth and sincere than many super rich people.

Well, that and a bit of extortion. You a big George Soros fan too?

I don't see anything in your link about physical force or even veiled threats of violence, just tough negotiation. Anti-Capitalist rhetoric is apparently not limited to the left.

Don't bother responding, I have no interest in your type. Life's too short to refute every insecure fool one comes across.

OK, Confucius. I can't say I am overwhelmed by your 'investment' portfolio.

Politics? Stock price? - what a shallow group today. How about a little respect paid to a man who literally has helped change the world. That's right - changed the world. This man has been worth billions for years now - and yet he still works 18 hour days, 365 days a week, gives away hundreds of millions of dollars. Who cares what his politics are - this man has been a credit to the USA, free market minded people, and needy people. God bless you Bill Gates - and good luck to you.

Excellent post :~D

So Vista is going to be the disaster most suspect.

Gates got out just in time. The blame will fall on the new Chief Software Architect - Ray Ozzie.

It already is. They've been laboring 5 years to get the Vista beast out the door, while Apple is coding circles around them releasing a major OS X upgrade every year. If Steve Jobs ever comes to his senses and allows OS X to be pre-installed on major PC brands (e.g., Dell), he could give the Gates empire a run for their money.

Bill has always been a strong businessman, but just wait until the fire-in-the-belly founders are all gone, and they are replaced by MBA option-jockeys....Reminds me of the sound of a cow patty hitting a cement floor....
