My buddy asked if I wanted to meet him to try to catch this launch...he had never seen one, so I agreed. We set up at the Amtrak platform at Bob Hope Airport (Burbank) which offers a clear view of the skies. I relayed to him how the ICBM rockets would go this way, and the Orbital drops from the L1011 fly a certain other direction. This launch took me by surprise as it appeared to head south and south east. With my binoculars I saw the booster rockets drop off and the main vehicle fly off into the yonder. Surprising there was not much contrail over So Cal, just that one patch of toxic cloud.
In case you are wondering, my friend used a Canon D20 digital camera with a zoom lens...
