In choosing Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger to succeed Pope John Paul II as Pope Benedict XVI, the Catholic Church has cast a vote for the survival of Europe and the West. “Europe will be Islamic by the end of the century,” historian Bernard Lewis predicted not long ago; however, judging from the writings of the new Pope, he is not likely to be sanguine about this transition. For one thing, the new Pope seems to be aware of the grave danger Europeans face: he has called upon Europe to recover its Christian roots “if it truly wants to survive.”

For while his predecessor kissed the Qur’an and pursued a consistent line of conciliation toward the Islamic world, despite numerous provocations and attacks against Catholics in Muslim countries, the new Pope Benedict XVI, while no less charitable, has been a bit more forthcoming about the reality of how Islam challenges the Catholic Church, Christianity, and even the post-Christian West. He has spoken up for the rights of converts from Islam to Christianity, who live under a death sentence in Islamic countries and increasingly live in fear even in the West. He has even spoken approvingly of Christians proselytizing Muslims — a practice that enrages Muslims and is against the law in many Islamic countries...

Pope John Paul II obviously did not know this.

Pope John Paul II was a human being, and fallible, like all human beings. Only God is infallible.

But Pope John Paul II was a great man, and God granted miracles through Pope John Paul II, even while the Pope was still alive.

Face it, Islam is an insane religion from the 12th century.
They are animals.
They are like fowl infected with bird flu virus.

There is really no excuse for any theologian.
It is just an unfortunate image and not one to be remembered by.

I remember Pope John Paul II as a great man, who together with President Reagan, ended Communism, but also a human man.

The picture was just mentioned on C2C and called a "blasphemy" because of the Koran's denial of the divinity of Jesus in chapter 2.

Obviously, Pope John Paul II, a man who God used for miracles - even while he was alive - did not read the Koran. I've never read the Koran, either. Have you?

I have been researching the Koran and hadith for several years. And for interpretation I go to the Tafsir ibn Kathir. See post #7 for a distillation of what I've found. I have been posting it to most threads on Islam for some time. I don't concern myself much with the Five Pillars or various rituals. My interest is in Islam's points of contact with others and its methods of subversion and internal control. If the Pope read nothing more than that he would have a clear view on how to deal with Islam.
