OK, who will the media blame...
Sherry Palmer or Karl Rove?

It's Bush's fault

So, according to the definitions you've supplied, Ken Lay was "a crook who tended to gather into a whole."

So was this guy:

I guess I could understand if it were self inflicted. I am not sure I could look forward to a life in prison as an old man. It would be like high school all over again. Brains didnt matter much there either.

"The strange and convenient death of J. Clifford Baxter—Enron executive found shot to death."

I actually casually met this guy at a party once. I am however good friends with one of his sisters, who is married to one of my best friends.

The family is ABSOLUTELY convinced that Cliff was murdered.

I have been known to swear in my life, but the overuse of profane language simply dimishes its effectiveness. One the rare occasion that I drop the "F bomb", it certainly gets the attention that I intend.

"It's not if you take it out"

ok.. I know that was tongue in cheek, but...

If the concept is not systematically presented in the old covenant text, it does not exist in the new covenant text as doctrine.

Concoursely, if a concept is systematically presented in the old testament text, it is lawful as doctrine in the new, where context permits.

"The man was probably carrying a very guilty conscience...." Nice thought but we will never know. IMHO, I don't think he felt quilty at all.

But the doctrine of saved by grace is systematically presented in the OT as well as the NT. (we're going to get spanked for derailing this) If you take the book of Ezekiel and look at the 26th chapter vs 13 to the end of the chapter you see a sovereign God who acts for his names sake for the benefit of his chosen people who have chosen to defile his name. This theme is reflected over and over again in Jacob and Esau, the life of David, and many many other stories involving the nation of Israel. God chose them - they rejected him - God pursued them - they rejected him - God acts to make up for their insufficient behavior. Eternal security is reflected in the nature of God's relationship to the nation of Israel - they are chosen and set aside not because of their good behavior but because of God's grace and mercy despite their behavior. Same for all of us NT believers.

Disclaimer, my opinion here, so it's worth what it cost you.

I believe the changes in Executive Compensation that were brought about with the Tax changes of 1993 which limited the amount top executives could receive in salary and started an expansion of stock options. I think this led to executives having an even larger more personal involvement in how a companies stock was doing and led to many of the book cooking shenanigans that have come to light over the last decade. I also think it played a part in the run away so-called Internet bubble.
Was Ken Lay the mastermind who dreamed this whole thing up, probably not? Was he a dupe who had no idea what was going on, probably not? Was he all the things bad the government prosecutors claimed, me personally I don't think so.

As for Sarbasnes-Oxley many companies that might have some day gone public never will, and some that have will return to private status. I think the SEC needed to streamline reporting and make it harder to hide things on the reports, not have Congress saddle business with even more cumbersome reporting hoops to jump through.

Bitter. Bitter on my own behalf as a helpless California utility billpayer, bitter on the behalf of the helpless people whose lives were ruined when Ken Lay stole everything they had and smiled while doing it.

Longsuffering should not be confused with unconditional.

Just ask Dan.

Israel's choosing by God is mirrored in the Church as a whole being chosen and predestined by God. Just as there were individuals lost that belonged of Israel, there will be individuals who will lose out that were once in church.

But you are right.. we are hijacking this thread.

Last response belongs to you:
