I mean this in all sincerity, was Tesla a bad guy? I know that he was a brilliant kook, but did I miss something in the history?

Actually, Tesla could be said to have invented ZOTS...

Bush: "Hello...hello, Kim?" (holds phone receiver back and winces as Kim starts ranting. Puts phone back to ear.) "Yeah, Kim, I heard you. You're gonna do what? Nuke who? Hold on a sec." (Sets receiver aside, presses button. Looks out Oval Office window at Tesla transmitter. Waits five seconds, picks phone pack up.) "Hello, Kim? Hello? Hello?" (Hangs up, looks at Dick Cheney.) "Yep, he got the message!"

OK.....
Thanks, but this must be the first time that I have ever heard that a zot was a good thing, lol

Tesla invented the artificial ZOT!

TESLA`S EXPERIMENTAL LABORATORY
In Colorado Springs, Colorado in 1899.

Tesla`s Magnifying Transformer in Colorado Springs, in full activity, produced 12,000,000 V (twelve million volts) and a frequency of 100 KHz (one-hundred thousand oscillatios per second). The flame-like discharges measured sixty-five feet (about 20 meters) across. From the outside antenna these sparks could be seen for a distance of ten miles ...

Another amusing thing about the scence in the posh restaurant is that Paul Reubens has a bit part as the waiter.

You go, Mr Tesla! Anyone can create a light bulb, but it takes a special person to create an earthquake in a building, and a legacy of 60-cycle hum.

Although Tesla emerged during the glory days of hair metal, they never completely fit the spirit of the times. Their music was well-produced pop-metal, to be sure, but they never indulged in the glammed-up excess that made cartoons out of many of their peers. Instead, Tesla's music was bluesy, no-frills, '70s-style hard rock; it concentrated more on solid musicianship than enormous, arena-ready choruses (or hairdos), and it had a noticeable grit — not so much the urban sleaze of Guns N' Roses, but a grounded attitude and a genuine affection for old school hard rock.
