FBI investigating donated cars (Louisiana)

FBI starts probe of donated autos :

When carmaker DaimlerChrysler AG donated 40 trucks and sport utility vehicles to Katrina-crushed governments in southeastern Louisiana last September, company officials never imagined some of them would wind up in the hands of private nonprofits.

In fact, the company said Thursday that it made clear to the cities and parishes that received the gifts -- collectively valued at more than $1 million -- that they were for the exclusive use of public agencies or government units, such as police and fire departments. Dave Elshoff, a DaimlerChrysler spokesman, said those instructions were delivered, both verbally and in writing, to then New Orleans City Councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt, who signed for 20 of the cars when they were delivered to Baton Rouge.

Yet eight months later, Gill Pratt would arrange for the donation of four cars to two nonprofits to which she has close ties -- donations that on Thursday, four days after they were disclosed, led City Council members to call for the cars to be returned to the city and the local head of the FBI to announce a criminal probe of the matter.

In the case of Gill Pratt's donations, the city attorney's office prepared cooperative endeavor agreements with Care Unlimited and Orleans Metropolitan Housing. The president of the second group is Mose Jefferson, brother of Bill Jefferson. The agreements were all signed by Mayor Ray Nagin.

Not every state has a recall provision in their election laws. I'm not sure about LA, but considering who wrote the laws, I wouldn't bet on it..............

Okay, so let's get with program starting this fall, and dump all Democrats over the next few years. Besides the traitor/treason Democrat human filth are emboldering, aiding and abetting the enemy and will get us and our families all killed if we ever elect the America haters known as the Democrat Party!!! We need a multi-party presence for our Democracy to remain healthy, but it is no longer the Democrat Party. For goodness sakes, FDR, HST and JFK must be truning over in their graves.

The voters of Louisiana had the opportunity to throw out the entire useless, criminal Democrat Party after "Katrina", but you did nothing, so as far as I am concerned you endorse the incompetents that are turning Louisiana into a welfare state and third world country. And...you deserve to get what you voted for!!!

New Orleans City Councilwoman Renee Gill Pratt, who signed for 20 of the cars when they were delivered to Baton Rouge.

Why should anyone be surprised at this. Corruption and graft is a known factor in New Orleans politics. Not one cent and not ANYTHING of value should be made available to the crooks. All aid of any type should be controlled by anyone other than politicians and local business people in that city. Whatever is given to them will end up in some sort of scam. It's guaranteed.

Geez Louise. Incest and corruption: two staples of LA politics.

Reports of corruption in the Big Easy.........This is shocking!!........If it's true, let's hope the champion of righteousness, Rep. William Jefferson, will quickly stamp it out, lest it becomes widespread.

In one of her last official acts as the City Council member for District B, Renee Gill Pratt steered a $16,071 city grant from a council discretionary fund to a little-known Central City nonprofit agency called Orleans Metropolitan Housing whose President is Mose Jefferson, the brother of "Dollar Bill" Jefferson.
