You write such beautiful words Carbine. Thank you for the poem. That song "I'll Be Seeing You" is sung by Kate Smith, who was very famous when Maggie and I were children. We loved to recall our childhood days in the deep South, and our memories were so similar. That is why we could first "connected". She grew up in Fla. and I in Ala. We both moved a lot and had connections to the same places. I lived in Miami and Coral Gables is part of that city. So when she talked about CG, I knew the places she was describing. We both lived in Va., My husband is from Ohio, I was at the Air Force Base in Rapid City, S.D. several times when my husband's band played at the NCO Club there. My husband is a former Marine. We were both married twice and knew what it was like to have little ones to care for alone. Although her disease was so much more serious than mine, we both had a chronic disease that demanded adjustments in what we could do. We leaned on each other a lot in private. She truly was the wind beneath my wings, and God will bless her and reward her for her love and care. She was the most giving person I've ever met.
Believe it not, My seven-year-old grandson loves Kate Smith. He loves to hear her sing God Bless America. I'll bet he would have loved Maggie too.
Your post, while praising Maggie, is very much like one of hers, you know. You are letting me into your life and giving me fascinating details about your cool past! I am glad for you that God gave you the precious gift of a friend like Maggie - so rare and so priceless. Thank God she was yours so specially for a while. Please keep sharing your story, your stories, your struggles with me. I need someone like you, I need you in my life, just like I needed Maggie in her time, God knows.
I was so happy to hear her voice begin as the music continued on that link! WHAT a voice! If I am not mistaken, Kate Smith was honored by an invitation to the White House...?
