Part of how big this turns out to be will depend on whether or not certain other problems (North Korea, China going into Taiwain, etc.) start at the same time. I've long been worried that China has just been waiting for the world to be distracted before it decides to go in and take Taiwan. Side-issues like that could easily escalate this into the biggest war the world has ever seen.

Where did you hear 2 Israeli soldiers killed.
There's nothing on Jerusalem Post or Haaretz about this.

I've long been worried that China has just been waiting for the world to be distracted before it decides to go in and take Taiwan.

A lot of very well connected people in Asia share your view.

These recent missile test by North Korea - entirely China's work - a show of muscle. China has a performing dog to carry its messages - it is known as "North Korea."

I should add that I view Taiwan as its own entity, but I know not everyone will agree.

this is interesting timing on reuters now:

EU warns of UN action in Iran nuclear standoff
BRUSSELS (Reuters) - The European Union joined the United States on Wednesday in warning Iran it faced U.N. Security Council action if it did not cooperate in efforts to end a stand-off over its nuclear program.

"If Iran is not ready for cooperation, then the process will have to continue at the U.N. Security Council," Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja, whose country holds the rotating EU presidency, told the European Parliament a day after EU talks with Iran ended without progress.

Washington on Tuesday warned of possible U.N. action after Tehran told the EU it was not ready to respond to an international offer of incentives to halt uranium enrichment, a process that can be used to produce a nuclear weapon.

Hizbulla is Iran, Hamas is Syria.

Hit 'em both and bounce the rubble.

"Washington on Tuesday warned of possible U.N. action"

A warning note in capital letters?

Thanks for the info.
I dont understand.
How can Reuters be reporting that 2 Israeli soldiers were killed and Jerusalem Post and Haaretz be saying 2 Israel soldiers were kidnapped.
There's no news about 2 Israeli soldiers being killed on Jerusalem Post or Haaretz.

This is breaking news, and therefore all over the place.

(Updates casualties)

JERUSALEM, July 12 (Reuters) - Three Israelis were killed and another eight wounded in cross-border attacks by Hizbollah guerrillas from Lebanon on Wednesday, the Israeli rescue service ZAKA said.

The identities of the dead were not immediately clear. Hizbollah said it captured two Israeli soldiers under cover of shelling against northern Israeli communities and army outposts.

The Israeli army said only that there were casualties in the clash and that two soldiers were believed to be missing.

AFP via translation -

Air and terrestrial offensive Israeli in Lebanese territory

JERUSALEM - the Israeli army operated on ground and in the airs in Lebanon following the advertisement by the Hezbollah Lebanese of the capture of two Israeli soldiers, indicated to AFP a military spokesman.

"Our planes, our tanks and our artillery operate inside the Lebanese territory", declared the spokesman by stressing that this offensive had been launched following the "strong probability" of the capture of two soldiers close to Moshav (firm collective) Zarit, at the israélo-Lebanese border.
