For a War, there is not a lot of people being killed (not that there is anything wrong with that!)

Israel is at war with Lebanon as announced at the UN, and Israel says Syria and Iran have their hands in it.

This is pretty heavy stuff (if true.) Here is an extract:

UPDATE (1528 CST) Not just rumors anymore…it’s looking more and more like a sure thing. From JPost:

OC Northern Command Maj.-Gen. Udi Adam said the IDF was preparing for a widespread operation not only against Hizbullah but also against the Lebanese government. The IDF, The Jerusalem Post learned, has drawn up plans to bomb the Beirut International Airport and other main infrastructure, including power stations in Lebanon.

“The IDF is responding with its full might by the air, the sea and the ground,” Adam said. “We are also preparing for a massive operation to defend Israeli citizens and stop the terror.”

UPDATE (1733 CST) Syria is not in the clear. Israel will move on Syria, too.

While placing responsibility for the attack squarely on Lebanon’s shoulders, he made it clear that Syria would pay a price.

“Throughout the recent period, Syria has proven that it is a terrorist government,” Olmert said. “It supports terrorism, it is a government that backs terrorism, it is a government that encourages the murderous actions both of terrorists located on its soil and those beyond it. Of course, there will have to be an appropriate preparation in order to deal with the conduct of the Syrian government.”

...In a statement, the resistance movement said its forces attacked an Israeli patrol near the border and captured two soldiers at 9:05 a.m.

Israel responded with air and artillery strikes on a wide variety of targets, including Hizbullah positions, highway bridges, residential buildings, and an electrical sub-station. Thousands of extra troops beefed up the Israeli presence near the frontier with Lebanon, and a small number pushed into Lebanese territory in the Raheb area, near the town of Aita al-Shaab. In addition, about 6,000 Israeli reservists were called up for active duty.

Hizbullah said its forces engaged the Israelis as they entered Lebanon, scoring hits on three tanks, one of which was destroyed. The Israeli military confirmed the incident, acknowledging that the tank's four crew members were killed.

In a statement issued by the Israeli Defense Ministry, Defense Minister Amir Peretz warned that "Israel holds the Lebanese government fully responsible for this morning's attack."

As The Daily Star went to press, Israeli warplanes had just destroyed a major bridge over the Damour River, just south of Beirut, and were carrying out raids on a base of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-General Command in nearby Naameh.

Lebanese security officials said the Lebanese Army was on alert, with soldiers deployed in Southern towns and anti-aircraft batteries in position.

Israeli shelling targeted a broad swath of territory on the Lebanese side of the border, with several forest fires reported as a result.

The most violent air raids targeted four bridges that link Bint-Jbeil, Tyre, and Marjayoun to Sidon and Nabatieh. The Israeli attacks also cut off roads linking Beirut to the South.

Equipment from local municipalities and Lebanese Army bulldozers began clearing the rubble and building a passage to allow citizens to cross from one area to another. ...

Low intensity operations are occurring in Lebanon (well, heavy from the terrorist/media/corporate sponsor/antisemite perspective).

At the moment Israel is focusing on Lebanon (as you'll see in the coming hours).

Syria isn't suicidal to get itself directly involved unless it's in retaliation.

However, if there are long-range rocket attacks from South Lebanon tomorrow [as feared] then Israel may hit some key targets in Syria, which in turn may get a reaction and so forth.

It's an unpredictable and dangerous situation. More than likely things will simmer back down in a few days after some air strikes and ground incursions back to the relative chaos, but theres a possibility of an actual regional conflict if things get out of control.

I think this essay from the master applies to Israel as well as it did to us.

"You can clean out the vermin in your own house, or you can have us clean out the vermin for you, or you can refuse to clean it and prevent us from doing so, in that case you will watch while we blow your house up in order to destroy the vermin, the extremist Islamic militants who started this war and who want to continue fighting it. Those are your only choices. But you better not plan on us giving up and letting your militants win, by letting them slaughter us when and where they want."

Israel must have a relatively pacified Lebanon always, but if this is to expand to include Syria, Lebanon is vital. Iran, who knows.

And so begins the second or third puppet war against Israel from the hostile Palestine. The very first words out of the Palestinians mouths once in Gaza was “On to Jerusalem” “Push the Jews into the sea!” Palestinian is there for the Arab world, a place for thugs, home of terrorism and Terrorists funded by Syria and Iran and others – the NYT will of course side with the terrorists. Just another example of ‘peaceful Islam’ at work……….

Question:

Does Syria jump in here and open a third front.

If Israel declares war on Lebanon, it is a possibility. Iran and Syria might then declare war on Israel. Then the US would probably declare war on Syria and Iran. This could get ugly fast.

And so it begins. God be with Israel against these fanatic savages. Anyone heard any comments from Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, and Dianne Feinstein on this. I'm sure they would advise Israel to negotiate, appease, whine and cry, and beg the savages to quit. That's the DNC way of conducting a war.

Watch the Strait of Hormuz. That is the only place Iran can conveniently join in the festivities.
