It may not be, but Hamas is destroying Lebanon from within...

They are part of the Government, and it makes thier actions an ACT OF WAR....

Therefore it is quite difficult to hold this area for such a small country like Israel.

Irrelevent if Israel doesn't intend to take and hold territory.

"I do not buy any Israeli war against Syria either. Not in the current situation."

Well, maybe you would "buy" defending your people if some of your people had been murdered by Syrian and Iranian trained & armed terrorists?

Why do you continue mentioning the term "occupation" when speaking of Israel's response to her current, critical, national security border situation?

Israel has nothing to gain by attempting to 'occupy' either Lebanon nor Syria, or wants to. The current plan is defensive, as in protecting the civilian population from Russian made, Syrian and Iranian supplied rockets, launched into Israeli towns and cities by Hizballah and Hamas Islamic killers.

And you think that it all improves when you punish the entire Lebanese people by destroying water and power facilities as suggested? Show reason. We need to strengthen the normal people in Lebanon, and get the Syrian influence out. Lebanon was founded as the Christian country in the Arab region, now it has a majority of Muslims and is considered to be the servant of Syria.

PErhaps, but I would take a step back here. I think what happened tonight with the recall of the Lebanese ambassador from the US was a very interesting thing.

That gave the people we like in the Lebanon Govt a opportunity to remove someone that does not share their aims nor ours nor Israel.
Furthermore, I have been monitering the blogs in Lebanon tonight. THey are of course fearful of bloodshed again and basically being bystanders in a fight they can only watch. However I do think that many realize what is going on and are seeing if this is done right that a menace can be removed from their lives.

True, but even the muslim population is quite different, The majority do not like any of these terrorist either. There is a vibrant democracy movement there too so I agree. I think Israel is going to play these smooth. Who knows what is going behind the scenes

I AM showing reason...
30% of the Government has managed to drag an entire nation into a war where most of thier citizens are sitting ducks....

The OTHER 70% bear responsibility for allowing AN ACT OF WAR, as well.
When they rise up against the 3,000 Syrian supported fighters, call me, until then, enjoy the Iron Rain....

No, your views are insane. Do you want my aunt and uncle (both in ther mid-50´s) to put up arms, knocking at the palaces doors and throwing the Syrians out? Get real. There´s nothing wrong with bombing the Hizbollah-bases in South Lebanon, but a blockade on the entire country? That would only harm the strong democratic movement. Most Lebanese don´t want the Syrians or Hizbollah have a say in their country. But they can´t do much about it. Pretty much like the people in the communist countries, or in Spain under Franco, Germany under Hitler, Cuba under Castro, Italy under Mussolini - unless you have a death-wish, it´s pretty risky to start a revolution.

Hesbollah is intentionally provoking Israel to bomb Syria and Iran in order to involve the moderate Arab countries.

If Israel takes the bait, look for Bush and the Rinos to turn tail and run in an election year.

Do you have any idea what you are on about? Quite scary that with all the media coverage you'd still make such an ill informed statement.

Do not distort the meaning of my words. Of course Israel has to respond to the recent terrorism. Anyway it would be too much to speak about a full-scale war with Syria as long as Israel does not invade the country. They do not even attack the Syrians in the moment.

Well, maybe you would "buy" defending your people if some of your people had been murdered by Syrian and Iranian trained & armed terrorists?

Since Iran is out of reach for a effective conventional millitary action of Israel this issue is rather theoretical. They would be able to throw a few bombs without any noteworthy impact. So what? This is not the way to declare and win a war against another country.

In the moment they are punishing Lebanon. It is nessecary but nothing really new.

It is a tragedy that there seems to be absolutely no possibility to find a intelligent compromise between Arabs and Jews that would make it possible to live in peace. The ongoning Arab resistance will continue to be a heavy burden for Israel's security and its wealth.

It is also a tragedy that the christian inhabitants of Lebanon probably have to pay a part of the price for the Islamistic auto-erotic of Hisbollah and others. As I said - I understand the necessity of the current Israeli operations but I hate the outcome.

The Lebanese government basically said that they weren't responsible for Hizbollah and took no responsibility. They are pretending that nothing is happening in that country. Perhaps the recent actions by Israel has finally got their attention.

Any point in the last year or so (since Lebanon has become less of a Syria puppet government), Lebanon could have talked with Israel and said: "We have a terrorist problem in the south, let's work to fix it." Of course no politicians were brave enough to step forward and make such statements.

Now they want to pull the same hand waving tactic they have been doing for the last 20 years?!?!? "Lebanon is not responsible. It is just a small group of terrorists that we can't control." Their inaction makes them responsible!

What action short of a blockade by Israel would cause Lebanon to acknowledge its Hizbollah problem? Think for a moment about the Israelis who have been murdered over the past couple of years before you criticize Israel for trying to stop the carnage by the only reasonable way. This blockade is going to hit Lebanon in the pocketbook, and one way or another they are going to acknowledge that they have an 'issue.'
