Ready, set, party for the Gay Games
Chicago Tribune ^ | 7/13/2006 | Monica Eng

With more than a dozen parties competing for your attention during the Gay Games, which run Saturday through July 22 throughout the Chicago area, just keeping up with the festivities could be a medal sport--with extra points for knowing exactly what to wear and how to prepare for each event.

Some, such as the lavish "circuit parties" that are part of the gay scene in major cities, will keep you out dancing until breakfast time. Others are great for an early-evening transition into party mode.

Debra Minghi is a self-described international circuit party veteran. She's also marketing program manager for the Gay Games. Minghi helped us develop this pre-game strategy for going to some of the biggest Gay Games galas--and figuring out which parties are best for your nights on the town.

PARTY SURVIVAL PLAN

Be early: If you want to meet new people, arrive at the parties about 15 minutes before they begin. This way you can mix and chat before the music gets too loud.

All are welcome: Even if parties are labeled "women's" or "men's" events, everyone is welcome because "the games are all participation, inclusion and personal best," Minghi says.

SNIP

Have flair: Although sporty outfits are likely to prevail, Minghi says, "you'll also see a lot of sequins and feathers. We encourage people to show their creativity."

When in ... : Just like when you were in high school, a good rule of thumb is "to call your friends to see what they are going to wear. Some people like to come theme-dressed with their groups of friends like `Boy Scouts gone crazy' or something," Minghi says.

I thought about that but hope they don't notice when it's a reply rather than a posted article, and there I think the system automatically forbids onion articles posted.

Even when i was a liberal, involved in the homosexual scene, the idea of a special "gay games" was a really wierd notion to me.

If they want to be seen as in some way 'normal', then why have their own sports event exclusively for individuals with the disorder?
What message are they trying to give?
They say they want to be treated equally (meaning, to have special treatment) and yet they take themselves off to be exclusive.

Is it just that, while claiming to want to be inclusive in all that heterosexual people enjoy, such as marriage and children (ignoring that it's totally unnatural for them), they actually understand that their sexual perversions makes them socially excluded from normal mainstream 'behaviour'.

They choose to 'exclude' themselves with this 'gay games'.

Do you have to prove you are gay to participate?

How do you prove you are gay? What do you have to do to prove it?

Hi,

Just reading your profile page... Why do you think it's not the result of environmental influences or learned behavior? It seems to me that people are attracted to what they learn to be attracted to and that environmental and social influences are a major part of it all.

In order to legitimize this fiasco as an international event, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services within the Department of Homeland Security has allowed special foreign visitor status for thousands that includes a blanket waiver B-2 travel visa for anyone with HIV/AIDS who wants to participate or simply observe the events. Under a ban passed by Congress in 1993, foreign citizens who have HIV or AIDS have typically been prohibited from entering the United States.

Gay Game organizers are expecting more than 12.000 athletes from over 100 countries to participate. Who knows how many observers will attend, but the thought of infected visitors from high-rate countries such as Haiti or Africa descending upon Chicago are alarming. According to the city’s latest STD/HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report, ending in December 31, 2005, the AIDS rate in Chicago is 26.9 per 100,000, double the rate of Illinois and nearly double the rate of the entire U.S. With statistics like this, you would think that the last thing Mayor Daley would encourage would be travel exemptions for foreign HIV/AID carriers so they could come to Chicago.

It’s just amazing what Democrats will do for votes.

You are probably right in what you say, for a lot of homosexuals. My reference to not being influenced by environmental and social influences was refering to a 'type' of homosexual, but still probably misplaced in the particular context, and i need to update my profile details.

However, the homosexual syndrome is a complex thing, and I believe that there are numerous causes for it's occurance.
If social and environmental influences were the only cause for the disorder, then that would make all the members here potential recruits. When a man finds the idea of sex with another man repulsive, no manner of social engineering is going to 'convert' him. There are those who will be prone to recruitment, and those who will never be recruited.

So, yes, environmental and social influences will have a major part in the cause of homosexuality for many, and less of a role for others.

This forum has taught me a lot in the short time I've been posting, so my understanding is always developing.

Thank you for your polite reply. I think almost everything comes down to conditioning.
