Wilson and Plame Want Help Paying for Lawsuit
CNSNews.com ^ | 14 JULY 2006 | Susan Jones

This remains a nation of laws," former Ambassador Joe Wilson said on Friday -- and it also remains a nation of lawsuits, as Wilson demonstrated at a press conference in Washington.

Wilson invited reporters to hear why he and his wife Valerie Plame are suing Vice President Dick Cheney, presidential adviser Karl Rove, and former vice presidential aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court on Thursday, accuses Cheney, Rove and Libby of conspiring to "discredit, punish and seek revenge" against Wilson -- for his criticism of the Bush administration as it built its case for the war in Iraq.

At the press conference on Friday, Wilson said the alleged "attack" on him and his wife "was based on lies and disinformation and included the compromise of Valerie's identity as a classified officer of the Central Intelligence Agency."

Wilson said administration officials' "abuse of power for personal revenge broke faith with their obligations as public servants to uphold and defend the Constitution."

Wilson said the lawsuit is about the pursuit of justice. In the next breath, he asked for help in defraying costs associated with the lawsuit.

Plame and Wilson have set up a website to help them "pay for the substantial legal costs associated with the illegal leaking of Mrs. Wilson's classified CIA status."

The website says if Wilson and Plame win a bundle in court, they'll return the money to the trust they've established - and distribute it to a charity that "works to protect government whistleblowers' First Amendment rights and helps to defend them from retaliatory action."

According to Friday's Washington Post, Plame and Wilson are seeking unspecified monetary compensation for a "gross invasion of privacy" that could jeopardize the safety of their children and make Plame a target for America's enemies.

You mean his attorney isn't on a "you don't pay if you don't win" fee schedule?

Smart attorney.

Not only smart, but whoever he/she/they are, KNOWS this case is going no where and has 0% chance of succeeding, thus no "contingency fee" basis for the Flaming idiots. Tee Hee Hee.

I just donated 1 cent with a credit card, the transaction should cost them about 35 cents. I may donate 100 more times now. You'd think they would be smarter than that, Idiots!

IF republicans had any cajones they would publicly blast her for having the nerve to send her husband up and down the country lying about a mission she sent him on, while she sat in teh CIA and pretended to be oblivious to what he was up to, and they would say she deserved to be fired from teh CIA and that she is a wacko for posing in spy and pajama photos in national magazines.

Kind of interesting that they're begging for legal fees.

Vice President Cheney is an extremely wealthy man. A judgment against him could amount to tens of millions of dollars.

Yet, the Wilsons' lawyers are leery to take their case on contingency. I guess they don't feel very confident about victory.

"Wilson lied"

I would think that the amount of outrageous lying by Wilson has dismayed even many of the looniest Bush-hating leftist moonbats. The sum total of his outright prevarications and halftruths is stunning. And now he and his subversive wife are demanding damages for all the "harm" done to them by the Bush admin. He reminds me of the story about the boy who murdered his parents but pleaded for leniency from the judge because he was an orphan.

"damned hypocrites"

Interesting point. Any semi-intense perusal of the ultra-nutty DU site reveals to the reader their (DUers) hatred of all forms of government related to defense INCLUDING the CIA. Except of course when an agent who wants to undermine Bush and the war is supposedly "outed". The same hypocrisy extends to service vets like Murtha. It's laughable to see the left lionize vets like Murtha knowing how much lefties detest the military. I guess any good lefty can put aside his or her anti-military/defense feelings to defend someone who would help bring the country down.

Just out of curiosity, anyone know if the Wilsons have to declare these donations as income?

My guess is that the MSM is not happy with these two. Too many of their own will be questioned.

Yep. That oughta be just great for beefing up attendance at Val's book signing parties too. Caller ID's going to come in handy for everyone dodging these two.

"The first book deal collapsed. Now Simon & Shuster has offered them a deal, which explains the lawsuit. They had to have promised to generate some type of publicity."

- It is certainly a publicity stunt. There is no way on God's green earth that either of these two yahoos would ever agree to a cross examination in any lawsuit.
