WESTPORT, CN, USA -- Despite the fighting in Lebanon, English rock band Deep Purple says that it plans to perform at the Baalbek Music Festival outside of Beirut later this year.
A press release from the band confirmed that Deep Purple would indeed honor its July 28 performance near the war-torn city, also promising an immediate makeup date should the festival's promoter choose to cancel the show.
Deep Purple is currently one-quarter of the way through a planned two-year world tour and to date has not canceled a single show, a trend that it hopes to continue.
Ian Gillan, lead singer of the legendary band, said that the band's commitment is driven by the idea that music is the universal language of the world and through its hopes to honor the loyalty of its fans through performing.
"There is a moment that begins on stage, when there are no managers, no journalists, no outside distractions - just the band and the audience," Gillan said in the release. "This is the time when there is an unspoken exchange of energy between the fans and us that words can not describe. That makes all the other parts of the job worth it."
Always a great .gif - this time with music!
Since they are playing in Lebanon, and with their way of viewing Hezbollah, perhaps "Not Responsible" is more appropriate.
More importantly do you still have it and where are the pictures. How did the scallop job come out?
I was at that show too!! Small world huh?
Thanks for that link!
I like those as well. Did they ever issue a remastered version of Shades of Deep Purple or Book of Taliesyn?
I have many, many fond memories of Merriweather. Well, ticket stubs, anyway..
And really, there's no need to swear. Good luck with your future.
Sorry that the use of the word 'damn' offends you so, Lord Piddlebrook. And good luck with that sense of humor implant. Sheesh.
Holdsworth is a deity = 5G with Bruford and bassist Jeff Berlin one of the craziest "fusion" cuts ever.
Oh I have a few pictures, nothing digital though. I was 16 when I received that instrument and by the time my high school wannabe rockstar days were over I had abused the instrument pretty thoroughly. I put a Floyd Rose on it, painted it all kinds of 80s dayglo colors with bumper stickers all over it and pretty much wore the frets down to nothing. It was retired in an unplayable condition after I purchased a Les Paul.
All that is left is the body and the neck which reside at a buddy's house who I haven't talked to in years. I've owned a few more Strats, Teles and Les Pauls since then.
How did the scallop job come out?
Surprisingly well! My friend had a little more woodworking skills than I had and he did the bulk of the work. The nice thing about those necks was the faux-pearl fret dots were pretty thick. We scalloped the board down quite a bit and the fret markers still remained. I only scalloped the neck from the 12th fret down. It played pretty nice!
Thanks for the ping, great thread! Ironic I just got a remastered edition of Perfect Strangers 2 days ago. Extra bonus track (Song of Alerik) on there I've yet to listen to.
How'd you do that? haha.
This might explain the "Swiss Time" thing...
From Blackmore's website: http://www.blackmoresnight.com/
1971 - In July, Deep Purple would tour the United States with The Faces. Two months later, the band would release, Fireball, an album that would also go Top 40 in the United States and be their first chart-topping album in the UK. The band would form their own label, Purple (distributed by EMI) in October before heading to Montreux to record. On December 3rd, the band is recording in the Montreux Casino in Switzerland when it burns down during a set by Frank Zappa's Mothers of Invention. The rest is history, as RITCHIE BLACKMORE and the group immortalize the incident in the song, "Smoke on The Water," which would appear on the bands next album.
Sorry, should've read the rest of the thread before I posted to you... (o:
How'd you do that? haha. I meant that for you, not myself typo.
No dice on that Win2kPro CD. He doesn't have it.
Man, I bet it did. Now that would've been a concert that I'd liked to have been at !
That was laugh out loud funny!
That's quite all right! As long as you don't get get really, really mad that I dared to have some fun with Deep Purple's lyrics. I realize now that was an unspeakable crime against humanity and I cannot apologize enough.
