Nationwide gas prices hit an all-time high in the last two weeks, rising nearly 2 cents to just over $3 per gallon, according to a survey released Sunday.
The national average for self-serve regular stood at $3.0150 a gallon Friday, up 1.98 cents in the last two weeks, according to the Lundberg Survey of 7,000 gas stations across the country.
The price exceed the previous high of $3.0117 set in September last year, analyst Trilby Lundberg said.
A gallon of mid-grade gasoline averaged around $3.12, and premium at nearly $3.22.
Nationwide, the lowest price for regular was $2.77 a gallon in Charleston, S.C., while the highest - $3.28 a gallon - was in San Diego.
$20-$100? You got a moped or something? ;-) Crikey, even my 650 sucks down $13 a week. My Nissan PU (work truck) gets 25 mpg but I do a lot of driving.
In 1980, the price of gas per gallon was on average 1.29 per gallon, adjusted for inflation, that works out to about 3.05 a gallon today using online inflation calculators, so the price of a gallon of gas has now returned to its adjusted for inflation high.
What you're really telling me is that this guy can't afford a car.
That's unbelievable. You're getting hit two ways . . . 62 miles is a long way to drive to work, and a Nissan Frontier is not the most efficient vehicle to drive that far on a daily basis.
Spending almost 100 bucks a week. Commute 75 miles round trip each day. 2006 Sierra Denali crewcab.
Ford Excavations? They must really be the pits!
You try living in a city with unreliable public transportation without a car.
The simple fact of the matter is that it is almost impossible to work wihtout a car. Public transportation simply is not an option for people who actually have to work.
For some people, including myself, my fuel costs have gone from $60 a month to $160 a month. That's "only" twenty five dollars a week right? My oil that I buy to lubricate my engine has gone from $1.29 a quart to $2.49 a quart. The tires I just bought went from $180 for four, to $256.12.
Milk is $3.49 a gallon. Hamburger is $2.59/lbs, etc....
Don't even get me started on property taxes and insurance.
My take home pay is $600 plus. A far cry from poverty status.
That makes sense. I remember seeing leaded gasoline on a trip I made with my brother to the Grand Canyon back in 1993.
My boss is running a job 60 miles south of here. Dodge quadcab diesel costing him $600 a week. I told him it would be cheaper to buy a home down there. lol.
It would be about $575 if I paid for it. Company cars do have there benefits.
If you ask me, THAT's the problem!!!
We have government windfall profits forcing the price beyond our means!!!
GovernMental EnvironMentalism costs way too much!!!
Every gallon of oil we buy from the middle east funds terrorists.
Uh huh. The "Company" pays for it, not the consumers?
I pay about 65.00 per month. I drive 1990 Toyota Camry 5- speed. Very reliable, gets about 34 mpg during the summer. I always shift into nuetral going down hills and inclines.
Not that I've seen.
The sales tax alone is more than the oil company makes.
Government is the only one "gouging" on gasoline!
The thing that gets me is the media only reports profits in billions and increase % over last year. Never have they reported the % return on investment.
By the standards I was taught in college some 50+ years ago every oil company should shut their door and quit based on their return on investment.
Gas here in Illinois is around $3.14. Most of the high prices in gas is due to taxes...
"Those of us who drive Honda Civics, Chevy Impalas, or Hyundai Elantras - particulary ones purchased used - are having a harder time paying for that gas."
You people cloging the roads with those toys should have to pay more in gas taxes!
I'd be paying about 650-700 a month if I didn't have a company car (truck actually--F150)
