INDIANAPOLIS -- A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured when a floor-mounted mirror fell on him at an Indianapolis Wal-Mart.
Police said Christopher Antonio was apparently playing near the 5-foot-tall mirror in the children's section of the store Saturday evening when it fell at the store in the 3200 block of 86th Street.
The boy was with his 5-year-old sister and his mother. The mother told police she was about 5 feet away from her son when she heard a loud crash.
Police said it took two people to pull the mirror off the boy.
I remember watching the movie when I was a child and always loved it. I've never seen it available on tape, but I did find a transcript of it. That was one funny story.

My daughter did......and she did it while she was "helping" me push the cart. There was something on the floor in the aisle and she didn't see it, tripped over it and skinned her knee. Accidents happen, no matter how close to you the child is, or how vigilant you are as a parent. That has been my entire point all along........you just refuse to acknowlege it.

I don't see any of what you are talking about from her.
My son could get into trouble in a heartbeat. He practically had an ER named for him because of the number of injuries that he suffered. Stuff happens, even in your own backyard. I didn't say, nor did the other poster, that the woman was a bad person or a bad mother, just that she should have had better control of the kid and we wouldn't be having this conversation.
When my oldest was about 8 I got so frustrated about her roaming out of my view in a mall, I took the belt off my coat and tied it to her. She was humiliated, but she didn't pull that stunt again. My girls were kept in carts and had adult supervision and still acted up. Geez...kids.
BTW, a lady stopped my daughter at Kroger's the other day to remark on what wonderful children she had...LOL, if she only knew.
If you had taught your daughter to look out for bumps in the aisle, she would not have fallen. You failed to do so and so she fell and skinned her knees. Of course, if she were living in the 50s, none of that would have happened. It just didn't. ;)

Sure it happened back then, but it wasn't a common occurance as it is today. Hardly a day goes by without a story about these things happening to kids.
Are you saying that times and conditions are not worse today than they were back then?
They are not an option in my house either. My child is 8, I'm 46. My daughter's best friend is also 8, obedience and manners aren't optional in that house either and the mother is 20 years younger than I am.
Your attempted slur on the parental abilities of those who did not grow up when you did, is just that, an attempt - and a rather pathetic one at that.
Terrible accident, a tragedy. Still, if we are to take the Democrats and Kerry seriously, this never would have happend if John Kerry were president. This is clearly the fault of the evil Republicans.
Actually, it happened all the time in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's and guess what? We picked ourselves up, brushed ourselves off, and went on our way.
We didn't expect a huge settlement because of a skinned knee. Now we do.
Darn those trial lawyers!
p.s. To all my reading-comprehension impaired compassionate FRiends, my comments have nothing to do with the child in question so please don't accuse me of being heartless. I am talking about the many times a kid slipped and fell or took a header out of a shopping cart and our parents didn't even think to visit a lawyer. Thanks in advance...GG

But its not as you think. I just have trouble putting thoughts into words.
I was simply trying to show my argument was not from an emotional context..that if I expected an adult unknown to me to be responsible for a child, I could find example within my own family to back it up. And so, I should not have said "fault or blame" concerning the mother. I should have said the "responsibility" lies with the mother.
PaPaw had warned me over and over again, he knew I'd try it. As he lifted the cart off of me (while I screamed bloody murder), what did he say? "I told you not to do that "KK", you could have been hurt, you scared me". If I had been seriously injured My PaPaw would have felt responsible, no matter about true fault,because he took his eyes off of me, knowing what I'd do.
In my family, the ultimate responsibility for the well-being of a child belongs to the adult in attendance. I'm not saying an adult would not regret something, or that the child is not loved by the adult...not at all

But I agree. When I was three-ish, I once cut my fingers up while shopping with my mom. I found an open box of razors (the kind you place into the handle) on the floor. I took a razor out and played with it, using my thumb and index finger to bend it. Anyway, I soon began bleeding everywhere and my mother rushed me to the pharmacy, where they bandaged me. Once she knew I was okay, she spanked me and told me to never do that again!

Yeah, our parents always figured it was our fault--we were horsing around or doing something we shouldn't have. And usually, they were right.
I have vivid memories of driving around in the car with my parents STANDING UP between them on the center of the front bench seat! Yikes!
It's amazing we survived.
And nothing to count on no matter which generation one grew up in, but especially in todays world!
And also, thanks for #507, I did not have time to look at prior posts to rid myself of the paranoia setting in..like pod people had taken over for me while I was out or something... (LOL!)
