INDIANAPOLIS -- A 3-year-old boy was fatally injured when a floor-mounted mirror fell on him at an Indianapolis Wal-Mart.
Police said Christopher Antonio was apparently playing near the 5-foot-tall mirror in the children's section of the store Saturday evening when it fell at the store in the 3200 block of 86th Street.
The boy was with his 5-year-old sister and his mother. The mother told police she was about 5 feet away from her son when she heard a loud crash.
Police said it took two people to pull the mirror off the boy.
In this day and age! Are you kidding that you see nothing wrong with it. That is more than a shopping cart away - generally recognized by all child safety experts as being the maximum distance a child should be allowed to stray from a parent at a store.

It is hard to say for sure but not hard to imagine you are correct. I was at a store where a parent was letting their kids climb and jump all over an expensive leather chair for sale.

Stop calling people a jerk just becuase they are 2 feet more safe than you are. If you want to let your kids run all over the place, way out of your reach then that is your business. But don't go expecting to sue anyone because a kangaroo might happen to fall on their head while they are out of your reach.

How do you assume that the child was wandering anywhere? Five feet is far from wandering. The mother could have simply been letting the child walk.
Your arrogance certainly comes through with your comment about the child being too fat for a shopping cart. Was the child fat or is that just a red herring on your part to defame the mother as a parent?
If the opportunity to let a child walk is available, instead of riding in a cart, walking wins out every time. Walking allows the child to receive some exercise though it may require you as a parent to expend some physical and mental energy that you would rather not expend.
Good for you! So many will do nothing for fear that the parent will object. Doing the right thing without fear of repercussion..is desperately needed today.

Where does it state that he was climbing on the mirror? Your post in 615 does not state that or even hint at it.
You have also stated repeatedly that he was playing with the mirror. Please post text from an article stating this as well.
You know, it's the mother *saying she was only five feet away, & I doubt any security tapes will be made public.
Another fact in this story is that there was also a 5 yr. old sister, so where was she ??
I have raised a 3 & 5 yr. old (at the same time) & there is no way you can WATCH 2 small kids & shop @ the same time, unless you have these kids in the cart/ or holding on to it.
I truly feel sorry for this family, but as I've stated earlier, seems now days I see many children running wild in stores, unsupervised......or toddlers left with a slightly older child left "in charge". (no parents in sight)
You are adding to it. It does not say that 2 people were "needed" to lift it, only that 2 people lifted it. In the excitement after the accident there could have been 6 people lifting it, that wouldn't mean that 6 people were needed to lift it.

"The boy's mother and another adult removed the mirror from on top of the child. He was taken to Methodist Hospital, where he was pronounced dead a few hours later. The Marion County Sheriff's Department is investigating."

If it were my child, my first thoughts wouldn't be about lawyers.
My same thoughts
The boy is not yet buried and they have a lawyer. I guess people cope with their grief in different ways.
The triple mirrors in my WalMart do not go to the floor, it's only floor mounted. Thr rubber bumper is 6 inches off the floor meaning he had to step UP to get his foot on it.
