The United States has not forgotten the Palestinian people, despite the current crisis in Lebanon, the US secretary of state, Condoleezza Rice, insisted today after meeting the Palestinian president, Mahmoud Abbas, in the West Bank.

"The Palestinian people have lived too long with violence and the daily humiliations that go along with the circumstances here," Ms Rice said in Ramallah.

"I assured the president that we had great concerns about the sufferings of innocent people throughout the region," she told reporters, saying "even as the Lebanon situation resolves, we must remain focused on what is happening here."

"You have our pledge that in our common work of bringing a two-state solution to the people of Palestine and the people of Israel that we will not tire in our efforts," Ms Rice added.

Ms Rice met Mr Abbas after visiting Lebanon and Israel, a trip primarily focused on seeking an end to two weeks of fighting between Israel and Hizbullah forces in southern Lebanon.

Everybody else has forgotten them...why not us? Nobody in the Arab world wants them?

As Laura Ingraham might say: Secretary Rice's comments could qulaify as the "Lie of the day."

I was impressed with Rice's declaration that we would settle for nothing less than a lasting peace...and then she ruins it all by remembering the palis.

"The United States has not forgotten the Palestinian people...

This is absolutely correct, and is as it should be.

Adequate targeting information has been readily available for some time now, and will not be forgotten.

Yes, I thought she was getting better, too. But of course, we have to recall that the big reason the Palis have nothing is because of their own terrorist "government," something of which Rice is certainly aware. So I think her words can be taken as a rebuke to them.

I haven't forgotten that Pallies are just Arabs. Nothing more, nothing less. There are plenty of Arab states for them to live in.

You're right. Try as hard as we can to forget them, they're still there.

I thought no other Arab state would have them.

The wretches have no one, absolutely no one, to blame but themselves. Even Satan gets a pass here--true Satan is Allah, but Muslims had to be adequately mendacious, lazy, retrograde, envious, childish, and evil (humanity's one unifying factor) to play along.

BTW personal names are capitalized according to general convention (e-mail addresses notwithstanding) Please do not read into my capitulization of Allah or Satan as anything else.

On reflection though, I think I will use lower case titles; satan and allah, muslims, the french, kerry, clinton, kennedy, schumer etc. It just seems right somehow.

sufferings of innocent people

Yea Ms Rice when you find some, kindly let us know. A people who danced in the streets after 911 and subsequently elected a terrorist government like Hamas as their spokesmen are not INNOCENT.!!!!!!!!
