Hezbollah’s secret weapon
Manila Standard Today ^ | July 25 | Antonio C. Abaya

IT IS hard to understand how and why the abduction of, first, one Israeli soldier by the Hamas in Gaza, then two Israeli soldiers by the Hezbollah in the northeast corner of Israel can possibly justify the all-out war unleashed by the mighty Israeli “self-defense” forces on the hapless people of Lebanon.

Granted that the powerless Lebanese government has allowed the Hezbollah to virtually take over an entire strip of territory in southern Lebanon, from which militants have fired Katyusha rockets and launched guerrilla attacks into northern Israel in recent years.

It's a left-wing article, but towards the end says Israel is rightly concerned about Iranian C-802 missiles: "It can carry a maximum payload of 600 kg of explosives, or ominously, 600 kg of chemical or bacteriological agents." I found this yesterday, while looking for the same thing, but from a different source...

I think if they escalate it to that, Syria and Iran are done.

Forget nuclear: Iran does not have such weapons, yet.

Glad to see the author has so much faith in that statement. I don't!

Oh spare me. What level do attacks on one's nation have to get in order to justify a robust response to terrorism according to the people of the world and of the media? Apparently 9-11 wasn't even enough to justify an aggressive and pro-active military response since we're now the enemy of the entire world according to the foreign pukes.

Try about 30-years of pent-up demand for justice and justified pay-back to Hezbullah.

"From this military perspective, the Israelis’ overkill is understandable. They are trying to preempt the Hezbollah from hitting Tel Aviv or Jerusalem with a C-802 guided missile or something like it." It is a lefty article, but the fact it gives (grudging) support for Israel's actions is the type of thing to blow a few leftists' gaskets.

C-802 warhead is 165kg, nowhere near 600. The whole thing is only 700-something kg at launch.

I should have posted the whole thing, but I hesitae for fear of (C) issues. The thing that caught my eye was about the C-802 & the possibility it could be loaded with 600 kg of WMD.

"Forget nuclear: Iran does not have such weapons, yet. "

No, but Pakistan does and North Korea has the delivery system. Both do business with Iran.

Be very worried.

The seeming "overreaction" by Israeli forces to what would appear to a relatively minor incursion was not so much to the actual abductions, but to what it signified. The Hezbollah and the Hamas were probing, seeing how much they could get away with without triggering a response.

They miscalculated. Israel probably has an enormous quantity of deciphered intelligence concerning the capabilities of the Hezbollah, and was just looking for a reason to act on this intelligence, before the Hezbollah could infiltrate even further and deeper into southern Lebanon.

Surrendering land before has not bought the Israelis any peace and certainly no security. So if Israel cannot rest at night, neither may the Syrians and Iranians who are the puppetmasters of Hezbollah.

If they use any chemical or biological weapons on civilians, all bets are off.

OK. This has pictures
http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/missile/row/c-802.htm MAYBE the author was thinking of this "Iran has also apparently supplied Hezbollah with the very large Zelzal-2 rocket that can loft a 1,300-lb (600-kg) warhead as much as 125 miles (200 kg) bringing even cities in central Israel within range of rocket attacks from Lebanon." http://www.aerospaceweb.org/question/weapons/q0279.shtml

"Hezbollah’s secret weapon"

I thought this would reveal the truth about Kofi Annon and the UN group that was supposed to keep the Hezbos out of S. Lebanon!

Perhaps, (PERHAPS I said) a SIMPLE adbuction would only be a police matter.

What everyone of these types of articles leaves out is the killing of EIGHT other soldiers, and destrution of armored vehicles, including a tank, in the process.

They qualify as MILITARY ATTACKS, (by the "official" forces of the countries being retaliated upon) in which prisoners were taken. Those ATTACKS took place on the sovereign soil of Israel, during a period of ostensible "peace".

Hamas IS the legal "government" in Gaza; Hezballah is 25% of the legal Lebonese government, AND the de facto government of Southern Lebanon.

>the all-out war unleashed by the mighty Israeli “self-defense” forces on the hapless people of Lebanon

Could you imagine
some US activist group
saying our country

just couldn't exist
with the Navajo Nation
"occupying" us?!

The Arab countries
make up a land area
about equal to

coast-to-coast US.
By way of comparison,
Israel, in fact,

is about one third [!]   *
the Navajo Nation size.
That's what the Arabs

say's "occupying"
and constantly "oppressing"
the Arab people.

You gotta wonder
why the mainstream media
never points out stuff

like this that can help
people get a handle on
the sizes involved.

----------------------------------------------

*   The Navajo Nation is the largest Indian tribe in the United States and has the largest reservation, which encompasses more than 25,516 square miles in northern Arizona, western New Mexico, and southern Utah . . .

State of Israel: Area - Total: 8,019 sq mi
