UN attack looks deliberate: Annan
Herald Sun ^ | 26 July 2006

Posted on 07/25/2006 4:50:09 PM PDT by Aussie Dasher

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan today said he was "shocked" at Israel's "apparently deliberate targeting" of a UN post in Lebanon, in which up to four UN observers were killed.

Mr Annan described the strike as a "co-ordinated artillery and aerial attack on a long established and clearly marked UN post."

He said it took place "despite personal assurances given to me by Prime Minister Ehud Olmert that UN positions would be spared Israeli fire."

"Furthermore, General Alain Pelligrini, the UN Force Commander in south Lebanon, had been in repeated contact with Israeli officers throughout the day on Tuesday, stressing the need to protect that particular UN position from attack.

"I call on the Government of Israel to conduct a full investigation into this very disturbing incident and demand that any further attack on UN positions and personnel must stop.

"The names and nationalities of those killed are being withheld pending notification of their families. I extend sincere condolences to the families of our fallen peacekeepers."

I guess it's time for the Stalinist lunatics at the UN to piss and moan about for of their terrorist-enablers getting killed.

I mean, it's not like the UN hasn't been helping the dear Palestinians establish a fascist state since, oh, 1948.

Well, one thing you can say about Israel, they sure know a real enemy when they see one!

Is there any practical difference between a UN outpost and a terrorist camp?

Israel is "deliberately" attacking terrorists and their weapons. Were Annan's boys a little too close to those targets?

Yes, the UN is there in southern Lebanon "observing" Hezzballoo arm itself to the teeth for the past 10 years.

The UN is a total joke and it just got some of their people killed needlessly.

It would be interesting to see who would surrender first.....France or the UN!

Yes that's correct. This is not a friendly fire incident or mistake, in my opinion. U.N. positions and equipment have been used by Hezbollah for years. the only question is this: Israel had the opportunity to embarass/disgrace their arch enemies, Annan and U.N., in a BIG way, but they have kept mum.

Putting the UN in charge of keeping the peace is like putting the Cubs in charge of the world series.

Wait a second the Cubs actually have been in the world series. The UN never keeps the peace.

One of my greatest quotes to a liberal idiot who loves france

"Saying the US should be more like France is like saying the Yankees should be more like the Cubs"

Thank you very much for that flashback. It bears repeating:

FLASHBACK

When bomb blast ripped through UN headquarters in Baghdad in August 2003, the US was blamed for not keeping it secure. Hoping to find the US at fault, Kofi appointed an investigation team that subsequently issued a report in October 2003 that the UN had refused US security assistance and even asked that some security measures already in place be dismantled. Shortly thereafter, the UN vacated Baghdad for good.

The bombing shook the United Nations into reevaluating security of its operations across the world as Mr Annan and his top advisers realised that the UN flag did not automatically provide security to its staff. The two officials stepped down as Mr Annan ordered a “strategic reorganisation” of security management under the leadership of Deputy Secretary-General Louise Frechette. Mr Anann’s actions to improve security comes in the wake of highly damaging report by an independent panel headed by Former Finnish President Martti Ahtisaari who described the UN security system as “dysfunctional” and “sloppy” and questioned judgment of the UN top officials in refusing offer of security from the US-led coalition, the “only credible” force in the country.

How does he know it was deliberate? Does he have proof?

They dug the bullts from the body and SCARAMANGA'S prints were...oh...wait...wrong movie.

Maybe the rounds were baby blue?
