United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan charged early Wednesday morning that Israel deliberately targeted a United Nations post in Lebanon late Tuesday night, killing four UNIFIL members.

They were part of the international body's peace keeping force in Lebanon that was created in 1978 after the beginning of the Peace for Galilee Campaign, Dan Gillerman, Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations said he was "shocked" by Annan's accusations and demanded an apology.

How much does an UN observer make today?

I understand the Chinese embassy flattened by Clinton during his Sarajevo bombing campaign was a source of constant radio traffic.

If we had electronic emission signatures we would surely learned that Israel bombed the forward UN post because it was providing either C&C or foward observer data.

It is possible that it was a less noticeable contribution: that they simply were allowing terrorists to hide behind the UN label.

After all the terrorists are using red crosses on vehicles, hiding in schools and hospitals, and fighting in civilian clothing. They certainly would hide at a UN "safe" area.

And the UN guys would have known it.

Israel sent a massive message to others who would try the same.

Not entirely true. They are part of A 2000 UN force called UNIFEL, aka, United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon and they had NO POWER what-so-ever to get get involved, INCLUDING unless fired upon.

So what was the purpose of them being there in the first place, except drawing a pretty good salary???

that's why Israel hit an ambulance. Palestinians use ambulances to move around their senior people and weapons.

Intel proably indicated a senior Hezzie like Nassrallah might be inside.

What kind of interim force stays at a place for to the tune of 28 years?

To a tune of a pretty good salary, therefore NOT interesting in solving any problem in the long term!!!

I was wondering if this could be a setup? Hezbollah knew Israrl was bombing close by and decided to murder these UN personnel to make it look like Israel did it?

Does anyone know if THIS was the site that was bombed?

When you fly your flag next to that of the terrorists, you deserve whatever you get!

I remember the beach incident in the Gaza strip, I believe it was?, where everyone was blaming Israel for the killings, and it turned out not to be true. Then what about ?Jenna?, where Israel was accused of all kinds of atrocities, and that turned out not to be true. And then there was that little Arab boy who died in his dad's arms, and Israel was accused of that, and it has been shown to be false.

Israel may definitely be the blame for these deaths this time, but the rush to judge and criticize Israel, has in the past been wrong until the investigations are completed.

No matter how the deaths occurred, it is a very sad incident.

so I'd bet pesos to peanuts that Israel had to act to protect its troops and stop the UN spies who were giving movement and other info to the Hezzies...

-------

An Israeli spokesman has said there will be an investigation.

IMO it's more likely that the scum hez'b'allah were responsible.

Thanks for the video.
That's been reported a number of times. Iran said it had sent 3 ambulances there and planned on sending 20 more. Gee, I wonder why?

Allegations of UN workers spying is not new. It's certainly a possibility that Israel got rid of them.
On the other hand, it's also very possible that Hezballah did it themselves.

Didn't Iran also pledge to send the suicide bomber brigade into action? Seems likely to me that they would use ambulances to do so.

I heard yesterday that the UN station was 400 yds from a Hezbollah strong hold. The strong hold was being bombarded constantly. How could they believe that they were safe?
