Sorry for being a bit late.

Now, this sunday's Media Nuggets

###### Irony of Fate! - For a looooong time, MSM very badly wanted to put Karl Rove on Jury trial. Last week for a very short time, flurry of phone calls & blackberry hits stunned the media & news outlets with news that FINALLY, Karl Rove is in court for Jury trial, only to realize little later that he was the Jury! Yes, he was selected to the jury pool, along with Madelline Albright.

###### MSM on watch! - Vice President Cheney recently picked a Press Assistant. His job description: "The Press Assistant is responsible for monitoring media for various national security and domestic issues, informing the Press Secretary and Deputy Press Secretary of issues of note and factual inaccuracies in the media." :-)

###### Talking the talk - After helping Hillary Clinton in fundraiser, appearing on the Charlie Rose Show, Rupert Murdoch said that he will NOT support Hillary Clinton in 2008. He 's against gay marriage, abortion & anti-Americanism.

###### Walking the walk? - Clinton(who waives $100000 speaking fee), Hillary, Gore & host of democrats were invited to NewsCorp. gala.

###### Hundreds of troops and veterans from the war in Iraq are blogging world-wide, and many are focused on a common enemy: "Journalists."

###### Media Bits - Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren owns a 144-seat seaside restaurant & an 80-foot yacht.
Ann Coulter appeared on CNBC's Donny Deutsch, MSNBC's Hardball, and CNBC's Kudlow all within the span of only three days - Rumor is that Coulter is testing waters whether to accept MSNBC's offer of a show.
Bianca Solorzano(former MSNBC host) becomes CBS News correspondent.
Tammy Haddad, Chris Matthews' Hardball producer was named MSNBC Vice President.

###### McCain's turn to NewMedia - Patrick Hynes, formerly of CrushKerry.com, now AnkleBitingPundits.com - working for McCain's Straight Talk America. Naturally, some bloggers are upset. Also interesting while McCain was critical of Swift Boat Vets, Hynes was the opposite.

###### Philip Anschutz is favored by the British government to build Britain's first super-casino. Anschutz's Millennium Dome site in London topped a short list of eight proposed venues announced by the government's Casino Advisory Panel. Anschutz is the conservative publisher of Washington Examiner and Examiner chain of newspapers.

###### XM Radio Widens Loss, Losing Subscribers.

###### Time Inc. shutting down the magazine, Teen People.

"This is not a joke" section.

###### In the midst of circulation decline, low ad revenue & lay-offs to boost the morale of it's journalists, Los Angeles Times editor offered an unusual morale booster - pony rides.

###### Time magazine announced it's replacement for fired Matt Cooper - Ana Marie Cox (specialist in sex, alcohol, and potty humor & creator of Wonkette website).

Rumor is that Coulter is testing waters whether to accept MSNBC's offer of a show.

Probably just before Chris or KO to try and boost their ratings, if rumor pans out. I may have to purchase a DIVO or whatever it's called.

Thanks as always for your Nuggest posts.

As usual second to none anita! Always a tremendous read.<p.

I especially liked how McCain was exposed as trying to infiltrate the New media, a lot of us have no love for him at all.And the bloggers that were troops in Afghanistan and Iraq was a terrific link.

I'm going to email the VP's office and suggest that this new Press Assistant get a permanent feed of FR.  I'm further going to suggest that they get a logon, not to post but so we can ping them on the good stuff.  Hey, it worked for Tony!

To: anita; Alas Babylon!
I have sent the following email to the office of the Vice President:

If the description of the job responsibilities in this article are accurate may I suggest that one of the best resources available for meeting this requirement

“… monitoring media for various national security and domestic issues, informing the Press Secretary and Deputy Press Secretary of issues of note and factual inaccuracies in the media.”

is Freerepublic.COM.  This is a conservative discussion site that primarily provides links to and discussions of current news stories from media all over the world.  Tony Snow was a regular (or had his staff participate) when he had his radio show and can provide background on what we do.

I think that having people keep an eye on stories posted on FR would be a good way to pick up on things that are going on and particularly things that are being distorted in the press.  I would suggest that a user account be set up, not for participation but so that members of FR can “ping” them to important news items or posts.  In this context “ping” means to provide a “heads up” message to someone about an article (in this context usually called a thread) or message (a “post”) that may be of interest.  I’m betting your office could quickly decide what “Freepers” are worth paying attention to and which ones can direct to articles and topics that need attention.

This is kind of like the “open source” work being done through the DOD Operation Iraqi Freedom Documents web site.  A regular participant goes by the screen name of jveritas and has done some of the most important work translating those documents and discovering significant amounts of relevant information.  Though this kind of thing can become a source of noise, I think it can also be a valuable resource to your office.

My name is XXX XXXXX and I’m from Germantown, TN.  I actually have an indirect connection with the Vice President as he (and I believe his wife) has gone salmon fishing with my parents at XXXX XXXXX in Canada in years past.  On FreeRepublic I go by the screen name of Phsstpok.

I would recommend reviewing the regular thread on the Sunday Morning Talk Shows as a great example of the type of things we do.  The thread for 7/30/06 is located here.  The site provides the ability to search and reviewing by poster or by title can provide some good examples for review.

And no, I didn't have the "XXX" stuff in my email.  I figured they would be able to tell who I was from my email address, so including my real name didn't provide a give away that they didn't already have.  But on this site you never know who's lurking... <g>
