"Prior to big games, local ministers frequently ask God to favor the Steelers; I seriously doubt He cares. Imagining God, sitting on His throne, while waving a "Terrible Towel" and shouting Dee-Fense is a solipsistic moment."

LOL

This guy's an IDIOT! First he says Not every person in Western Pennsylvania bleeds "black and gold" and lives vicariously through the exploits of Pittsburgh's gridiron gods.

Then he says

There are pleasant perks if you ignore professional football. During a broadcast, you can take advantage of empty golf courses and movie theaters. Normally bustling supermarkets are sparsely populated

Trust me Western PA does bleed BLAK and GOLD!

HERE WE GO STEELERS, HERE WE GO!!

How's the Stillers' QB making out? Will he play at all this year? I hope Steelermania can help Swanny pull of the upset in the governor's race.

I live in the Pittsburgh area, but I'm afraid the city has not made a positive overall impression on me. Too bleak.

The gleaming new stadia for the sports teams contrast vividly with the condition of local housing and commercial buildings, almost all of which could use a coat or two of paint, and many of which seem on the verge of collapse.

From pretty much the day I came here, I was trying to figure out how to leave. The gloom is truly oppressive, guys. How do you survive?

One way seems to be through the Metal Humanoids. I certainly did hope they win, since it seems like one of the few things that can actually cheer up this oppressively grim place.

I love to hate the Steelers, but this author has clearly been writing without a helmet...

Good Gosh. I am a New Englander and a Pats fan, but will clearly side with anyone that has Black and Gold in their veins against a maroon like this.

People like the guy who wrote this are simply incapable of understanding the fun and enjoyment of a sporting event. I sense an Ivory Tower intellectual when I see words like "solipsistic"...oooohhhhhh! What an INCREDIBLE word!

It reminds me of a woman once who derided air shows, and said they were simply symbolic recreations of the Nuremberg Rallies and that planes were "phallic symbols"...no...I am not making this up.

But it sure sounds like an Ivory Tower Intellectual.

So why did he go to the trouble of writing this article? Why couldn't he just not care, silently?

That was funny, but I don't get his use of the word, "solipsistic."

(Yes, I do know what the word means. I suspect the author doesn't.)

Unintentially funny article. Could have been written by my Mom! LOL!!

I'm currently on my golf vacation in Western PA. I'm enjoying all the Steeler camp coverage in the newspapers, radio, & TV. I go back to DC Monday and will be innudated with wall to wall Redskin coverage. Now that is something to complain about! ;-)

Obviously, the author is looking for a job in Cleveland. The Cleveland Plain Dealer has higher writing standards, however.

A reminder on the nature of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette (known here in Pittsburgh as the comPost-Gagger): The Post-Gazette, privately owned by the Bloch family, is a Union Socialist (or Socialist Union) propaganda sheet. Socialism through Labor Unions is the Post-Gazette's goal; Mandatory Unionization, too. It supports only Democrats. Of the Democrats it supports the most socialist/unionist candidates.

The Post-Gazette was Number Two in circulation to The Pittsburgh Press (a Scripps-Howard paper, which was a bit liberal, but not terribly so, and that made it very, very conservative compared to the Post-Gazette) until the Teamsters' Union put the Press out of business. For a time, the Post-Gazette was the only metropolitan-wide newspaper in the Pittsburgh area. Now, it is being challenged by The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, a conservative paper.

This proves my theory that this "guy" has a sore ass because he is a fan of the denizens of the"Queen City". The Bungholes.
