Maybe the General of the 101st Airborne was right and we need to put the hammer down because this is what they understand. When in Rome ... and the Middle East is not Kansas. I could be wrong, but I think you are mixing up who was in charge of what unit. Then MG David Petraeus (CG 101st) "got it" and in no way ever advocated the hammer for the hammer's sake. He and Marine Corps General Jim Mattis understood the concept of "no better friend - no worse enemy." Many here seem to advocate going straight to the no worse enemy aspect and by default creating a hundred-fold of no worse enemies in return. Bottom-line When all you got in your toolbox are hammers everything starts to look like nails.
