Dorothy Ray Healey, 91, a former longtime leader in the American Communist Party who moved to Washington in 1983 to help raise her grandchildren and who hosted a weekly radio show on WPFW (89.3 FM), died of respiratory failure and pneumonia Aug. 6 at the Hebrew Home of Greater Washington in Rockville.

Mrs. Healey, once known as "the Red Queen," embraced the Communist Party in Los Angeles at 14 and rose through the ranks, becoming chairwoman of the Communist Party USA in Southern California. A labor organizer, civil rights activist and radio commentator, she remained a party faithful until 1973, long after she had begun to disagree with its orthodoxy and criticized it publicly

Apologies if I double posted.

No, no, no! You didn't double post.
It was a separate obituary (just as glowing though).

I was shocked... SHOCKED that there was pro-communist leanings at the WaPo.

You're kidding, right?

She's walking, hand in hand with Gus Hall, into the sunset at last.

That's the real problem. Whatever crackhead whenever in America's past that came up with "free" public education should be disinterred and flogged to bits.

Jefferson talked about the need for it actually.

It was a great idea until about 1964.

The PS system is a mess no doubt about it. But the concept was not ignoble.

You must understand this rotten newspaper called the Washington "Post". It is a collection of America haters who rose to the top when they got Richard Nixon and wrecked the war effort in Vietnam (of course, when their own wallets were at stake, they destroyed the pressmen's union, fired the union members and went to scab satellite printing plants). The ironic point is that Gallup did a fascinating poll of the American public last week pairing up the presidential candidates of the past 40 years. While Reagan would beat Carter now 64-36 instead of 51-40, Nixon would actually improve his 1968 winning margin over Humphrey from one to eight percentage points!! This after the garbage that wretched newspaper orchestrated against him.

Our way of life depends on an educated population. Its just too bad American students can't pay dues to the Teachers' Union to rate some attention from our classroom employees.

Dorothy Ray Healey, 91

It's good that she lived long enough to watch communism implode and collapse into the dustbin of history.

Nixon admin had its warts for sure, but there has no President who had a better understanding of the world than he.

He would beat Humphrey again. I despise those commies at the Washington Post who ruined him.

WAPO, tomorrow:"Doris D Nobody, a long-time leader of the American Nazi Party, died yesterday of respiratory failure and pneumonia.

Mrs Nobody, once known as "The Aryan Queen", embraced Naziism at age 14, and rose through its ranks to become chairwoman of the Nazi Party of Washington, DC. An advocate of Aryan superiority, prolific writer, and radio commentator on NPR, Mrs Nobody remained a committed Nazi even after she publically disagreed with some elements of "Mein Kampf", and criticized the excesses of the Gestapo and the concentration camps." more>>>

Public education actually came about because the Puritans were distressed that children could not read the Bible.
