After being put in to bat at the Maple Leaf Cricket Club, Massiah and Nadkarni came together in the 6th over with the score on 32, and the partnership was only broken 229 runs later with the departure of Nadkarni for 111, and the total at 261 in the 46th over. The left-handed Nadkarni struck 10 fours and 2 sixes, and faced 132 balls.
Man of the match Massiah batted on to end undefeated on 136, an innings that included 16 fours and one six in 140 balls, and saw the USA innings close after 50 overs on 300 for the loss of 2 wickets.
The giant partnership of 229 for the second wicket included some superlative batting, making maximum use of an outstanding wicket and a fast outfield. The Cayman bowling attack could find no answer against an inspired blend of aggressive strokeplay, controlled ball-placing and measured running between the wickets
For the Cayman Islands, all the bowlers struggled to contain the flow of runs, with Franklin Hinds proving the most effective, conceding only 32 runs in his 10 overs.
Faced with a mammoth run chase, the Cayman batsmen showed positive intent from the start, but a succession of wickets put the USA total further and further out of reach. At 58 for 4 in the 11th over, it would have taken an effort of Herculean standards, and despite a dogged 28 from opener Steve Gordon, and determined middle-order resistance from all-rounder Hinds (33), captain Ryan Bovell with 34, and an undefeated 33 from young Jalon Linton, it was not enough.
The Cayman Islands were eventually all out in the 43rd over for 194, with best USA bowling performances coming from pacemen Imran Iwan, 3 for 47, Steve Pitter with 2 for 21, and also left-arm spinner Chintan Patel with 2 for 30 in 10 overs.
A convincing start for the USA, and they have certainly served notice with their 106 run victory that they are serious contenders for the Americas cricket crown.
Nadkarni with a century in his international debut gives fans of USA cricket plenty to smile about for the future.
USA scored 98 runs on the final 60 balls of the match.
Their remaining schedule: Aug. 23 USA vs ARGENTINA at Toronto, ON - G. Ross Lord Park Aug. 25 BERMUDA vs USA at King City, ON - Maple Leaf C.C. Aug. 26 CANADA vs USA at King City, ON - Maple Leaf C.C.
Argentina should be a winnable match. Bermuda will likely be the toughest opponent of the whole tournament. The match against Canada will be very interesting.
Cricket ping!
Splendid game - well played US and commiserations to the plucky losers, CI.
Yeah, but will their ATM cards continue to work? "Honey, look at this bank statement for our secret offshore account ..."
Went to a match once in Antigua. Never could grasp the playing of it. The others in the stands had a great time.
As with any "game" the good players make it look simple and easy while it's not. More skill required than I could ever muster.
The United States does cricket? It isn't a Commonwealth country.

All Greek to me.
That doesn't matter.
'The United States does cricket? It isn't a Commonwealth country.'
Football is only Rugby with a few rule changes - the Brits invented that as well and no-one reckons we should be a commonwealth country to play that.
Played it when i lived in England - it's a great game and i can tell you for sure that a leather cricket ball hurts a hell of a lot more than a baseball does when it hits you!
"...a leather cricket ball hurts a hell of a lot more than a baseball does when it hits you"
Plus, you don't wear some stupid mitt to help you catch it or dull the pain...(or for whatever reason they wear it).
USA defeats Argentina by 7 wickets, are 2-0 for the tournament:

Good thing that Pakistan isn't playing... cricket, anyway, they seem to be busy w/ other ventures right now.
There's something seriously wrong with a game when you can play it for 5 entire days and still not get a result.
These games which the US team are playing in last only five-six hours or so.
Those who condemn the test match draw have likely never seen one, nor do they understand its meaning.
"Man of the match Massiah batted on to end undefeated on 136, an innings that included 16 fours and one six in 140 balls, and saw the USA innings close after 50 overs on 300 for the loss of 2 wickets"
Two wickets? Just.... damn.
I once played in a pick-up cricket game in the Turks & Caicos Islands (they were desperate for warm bodies - I'm a pretty good sandlot baseball player but this was "something completely different." I actually managed to make contact with the ball a couple of times. And yes, that hard ball HURTS on bare hands. ("Get a bag! A +@%*^*^& great big one!"))
What was the spread? Oh, and by the way... what is a "wicket" and why is it important that the U.S. lost two?
When you're batting, wickets are bad. It means someone got out (aka losing a wicket).
A batting lineup has 11 batsmen. Two of them are batting at any one time. Once a team has lost 10 wickets, it means the 11th batsman is by himself and can't bat anymore.
The fact that Team USA only lost two wickets after hours of batting is a very good thing.
