Conservatives try to curtail hotel porn

NEW YORK - Pornographic movies now seem nearly as pervasive in America's hotel rooms as tiny shampoo bottles, and the lodging industry shows little concern as conservative activists rev up a protest campaign aimed at triggering a federal crackdown.

A coalition of 13 conservative groups — including the Family Research Council and Concerned Women for America — took out full-page ads in some editions of USA Today earlier this month urging the Justice Department and FBI to investigate whether some of the pay-per-view movies widely available in hotels violate federal and state obscenity laws.

The coalition also is trying to draw attention to CleanHotels.com, a directory of hotels and motels nationwide that pledge to exclude adult offerings from their in-room entertainment service.

Do you think the Feds should inforce "community standards" on all the states like these buzybodies do?

Except nobody dies

What about the children who are kidnapped and forced to be in these movies?

You don't believe that pornography has any influence on these child molesters, rapists and murderers?

Many have confessed so...

If this wasn't such a big business, enabled by these hotels, would there be as much incentive for the crimes related to pornography?

The biggest lie about pornograpy is that "nobody gets hurt".

Caricature of a Puritan: Violently upset that someone somewhere might be having fun.

That would make a great tagline! LOL!

I already stated on this thread that I would be loathe to petition the federal government to restrict what people can choose to buy for entertainment.

But my citation of the 10th Amendment should have made it clear that the power to establish community standards is CLEARLY reserved to the people and to the states. For the Feds to enforce "community standards" on states would violate the 10th Amendment.

I would rather it not available in motel rooms either.

But that doesn't make me a nannystater like you, because I have no intention of calling the Feds on the motels.

What is interesting about this thread is that folks simply do not like being told what they can and can't do. Guys who would probably never select those pay per view movies still want the option of selecting the movies. Fer instance, I would never order anchovies on a pizza, but I'll go to the mat for the right to order the stinking little fish as a topping.

Yea right! Conservatives are wanting MORE government! Liberals are just sick of hearing their 'name' in the media lately so they want to throw out the 'conservatives' thing.

Now you've done it--I'm suddenly hungry for pizza. But you are right about being told what you can and cannot do. :)

I'm of the Carnegie school -- toward the end of his life he built hundreds of libraries in communities across America. Basically he built very sensible buildings, but left them empty for the communities to decide what books to fill them with.

In every hotel I ever checked into, the power to all the appliances / lights, etc. is off until I turned it on.

What is so difficult about that?

Control your fingers, people. Don't push the "on" button if you don't want something to operate.

In other words, while the power to set community standards is rightly recognized under the 10th Amendment as reserved to the People and to the States, the power to set community standards regarding ownership of firearms is not as it is clearly prohibited by the 2nd Amendment.

The problem is that people keep thinking they're going to get the federal government to enforce their community's standard on everyone, and the keep ending up with the beltway's standard enforced on them. You'd think sooner or later they'd catch on.

Who told you that they show pay per view child porn at hotels? That is most definalty not the case in any hotel Ive ever been to.

" You don't believe that pornography has any influence on these child molesters, rapists and murderers?"

No cause effect relationship if thats what you mean.

" Many have confessed so..."

Ya, it's called shifting blame. Anything and everything was the responsible for their behavior but them. When did conservative start buying that garbage.

"If this wasn't such a big business, enabled by these hotels, would there be as much incentive for the crimes related to pornography?"

Are you kidding? The most ancient articles of sculpture in the world are of naked women and penises. We like sex and have for a very long time. In fact it's a requirement for even existing.

"The biggest lie about pornograpy is that "nobody gets hurt"."

B.S. There is a shady version of every business and when it crosses the line, fine prosecute. But a little soft porn in a hotel room never hurt anybody. Even if it did, it's self inflicted and none of your tea toddling business.

I once turned on the TV in a hotel room and saw two lesbians kissing. The image has been seared into my mind. It's all I can think about day and night, night and day. I see lesbians everywhere, everywhere I tell you. Lesbians, lesbians, lesbians...I order french fries and imagine them as lesbians. Lesbians appear to me in cloud formations and the way my milk blends with my morning coffee. It's a horrible, horrible thing...even the animal documentaries are filled with lesbian ottos and seals. There is no escaping it!

First it's hotel porn, then comes child porn. You all seem pretty familiar with the whole scene.

Laws will never change what is in men's hearts...that's up to you.

I don't suggest changing any laws, but I pray for the hearts and souls of porn watchers...and their daughters.

Think about it...
