I don't remember anyone using "series" before I did, but I could be stunned...

Not sure of the FR origin other than "anything sounds better with more cowbells", (a reference to a favorite percussion instrument used in rock music). Alex Van Halen is a big fan of cowbells."I've got a fever, and the cure is MORE COWBELL!"
It's from a SNL sketch, a take-off on a "VH1 Behind the Music" of Blue Oyster Cult. It's a real scream! Do a google search for the video. "More Cowbell" should be enough!

Wow, I missed that one the first time around. Great, great, great funny stuff.

How about "A moose bit my sister once"?Watch the opening credits of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail." It's a hoot! Except I don't think that llamas "hoot!"

Surely that is a Free Republic origin that must be mysterious to outsiders...To this day, I still break out in hysterical laughter every time I hear "The Immigrant Song" on the radio.

Those were the days, when we could watch the press "behind the scenes". My favorite was when the reporters would be milling around on the balcony in street clothes and then put on a flak jacket and helmet just for the time they were on air.

And don't remember the "Rachel Corrie Memorial Pancake Breakfasts" held all over the country!

Thanks for the info, SW6906. I remember reading most of the story, but didn' t know all the details.
You're heart was in the right place, that's for sure. Kudos anyway, regardless of how it turned out.
Hope this somehow gets put in the FR Lore Book. I hope some creative FReeper will think about getting something started along that line.
Best -- Dave
